Pro Tools Update

Recommended Posts

Simon

The pro tools plugin was updated to 1.8 today.

Included in the update is some new code that allows users to search for content within sections**.

Also included is a clever snippet of code that allows your site to pass the latest HTML5 validations. Sites were getting warnings about <section> not including a header (H1-H6). This is now fixed by adding a blank hidden H6 into the section content.

** Search results will only be returned if the section is on a page or post and is in the local scope. Adding a section to a type page such as a category will not return a search result, as a category page does not have a pageID.

The update is running fine on one site (flywheel) but on another on WPEngine it's crashing the editor and the live site becomes blank.  Deactivated 1.8 and all was fine.  Ran a restore to previous version and all is fine.

Also, using a hidden H6... will that have any negative SEO implications?

assuming a crash means a php error? Did you enable php debug and see what the error was?

Hi Simon,

I haven't had time to do any debug but v1.8 of DMS Professional Tools crashed my client's website today as well. Installing an older version of DMS Pro Tools (v 1.4.9) brought the site back up immediately.

Rolling back 12 versions isnt really much of a help im afraid.

Do you mean you get a white page? In the admin area or on the front end?

Did you enable WP_DEBUG to see what the error is?

What version of DMS?

It just crashed one of my sites as well.  When activated, I get "Fatal error: Call to a member function section_template() on a non-object in /public_html/wpqk/wp-content/themes/dms/dms/editor/editor.handler.php on line 998

Once I deactivate it, my site comes back up again with no issues.

Thanks,

Scott

pushed a hotfix to disable the feature, the only thing i can think of is you have a custom section that does not have a template function in it.

What feature was disabled?  All of the Pro?

Do you still need a site?

I have the same problem. When I deactivate the plugin, my site is back on. Is there anything I can do?

@vladimirtrajkovic

Uninstall the plugin and reinstall an older version.

The h6 has no content, its only there to make a site validate.

<insert some SEO robot here> only penalise for making actual text invisible, like stuffing keywords into the footer in the same color as the background, but people stopped doing that in the late 90s right?

Cool.  Does it create any space in the section that we should be aware of?

Oh...and the invisible text...good grief, I hope so.

It creates a blank space that is hidden, all rather moot as the update was reversed because of a couple of users reporting it *crashed* their servers.

Darn.  Did the search DMS sections stay in though?

There will be another update for the plugin too, nothing major, no real changes, no new features. Just a couple of minor changes under the hood.

      Hi
      I have a map here http://www.iloveoffset.com/maps/
I want to add several pointer locations to the map, but when I do they do not appear.
On this map there are 2 pointer locations and as you can there is only one visible.
Earlier today I added 7 and could only see 4 so there is something odd going on.
My theme is up to date

      Hello,
I've been having trouble unlocking the template section for past couple of weeks. When I try clicking nothing happens.
I've deleted my custom css and removed plugins. Im down to having only the following plugins:
      Akismet
      Contact Form 7
      DMS Professional Tools
      Pagelines Updater
      WooCommerce
It was working fine before i have no idea what's going on with it.

My DMS 2 site http://www.heart-stone.com/ will not save any new custom css... I can still edit templates and publish those but any custom css that I enter never saves.
All WP files, themes, and plugins are up to date.
Any thought about what might be causing this?

Is there a way to edit the custom CSS via FTP? I know I can edit the custom code in the Chrome editor but is there a file path I can use to find and edit the CSS directly from our FTP?
Thanks in advance for the help!

Using navbar section with correctly configured WP menu to display main navigation at https://elenaangel.com.
All fine in desktop viewport. Menu displays twice in hamburger mode. How to fix this please?
