Video not displaying on Home page blog

Recommended Posts

redstate

I've added YouTube videos to Blog posts where they display just fine, but they don't display on my Blog on my Home page. Only the headlines appear. I embedded the YouTube iframe code in the Text tab, as usual. What setting am I missing?

See http://americansendingabuse.org

To the right of the video is a Format box that appears to be a Pagelines addition. Do I need to click Video when I display videos, rather than Standard or Gallery? It doesn't seem to matter in order to display them in blog posts.

Also, down below the Blog post are four Video settings. When do we insert the embed code in the box there, instead of entering the iframe code under the Text tab?

HI,

To use the Post Formats that WordPress introduced 3.1, you need to follow their instructions in their documentation. For example, if you want your post to work as a video post, then you need to select Video from the post formats box. This isn't something PageLines has introduced, this is part of the core of WordPress. Once you select Video from the formats section, a new option will appear where you add your video settings:

If you wish to add a YouTube video, then you need to add the embed code to the embed text field and when you do, you will get your video displaying like this:

Thanks. Following your instructions, I tried again to embed the YouTube in the Video Settings box after selecting Video in the Format box but no videos display. They do display, however, when I simply add it under the Text tab, as has always been the way to add videos in the past. But whether I embed it as you directed or just embed it under the tab Text, the video does not display on the home page Blog. The headline and text appear but no video. Any other suggestion? Since Wordpress has changed their post formats for video, I will go read about it and see if I can figure this out.

Can you provide me a screenshot of the settings you have set when attempting to add a video, as I have just this moment tried it myself and the video is working just fine.

All I did was goto the post which has a video, select the video post format from the right hand side and then in the video settings panel under the post content editor, choose the embed option and added the embed code for a YouTube video, then clicked publish.

Not sure what you mean by icons. However, here are my video posts settings:

2. https://cloudup.com/c4vKPDNCFzm

Then I publish and when I view the post, this is what I end up with - https://cloudup.com/cVPc-wh2tLI

Strange. For some reason it's not working for me. My settings are exactly what yours are. I also tried adding the URL under the Text tab and the video works on the blog page, as well, but not the Home page. Will your video post to a home page?

How are you displaying your posts on your homepage, because if you're using static pages, then it is not possible for you to use the PostLoop settings on your homepage, as your blog page and home page are two separate pages.

Also, if you're not using static pages, make sure you're not using Legacy mode, as this mode doesn't support post formats.

I understand what you mean. I'm not using static pages, just Your Latest Posts. Does it matter if I use either Full Text or Summary? I'm using Full Text now but I don't see any difference.

Are you using legacy mode? As post formats isn't supported in legacy mode. If you're, then you need to switch.

That was it! I unchecked Legacy mode and now video works fine on the Blog post and Home page. Thanks so much for being so thorough and hanging in here with me for so long!

Uh oh. I just discovered the by unchecking Legacy mode it also deleted all my page titles. How do I keep the page titles displayed while also displaying the videos on my Blog on my Home page?

If you use a child theme you can add the followng snippet of code to your child themes functions.php and this should display the page title - https://gist.github.com/cliffordp/6829567

You could also simply go to your pages and add <h1>page title goes here</h1> to the top of each of your pages.

OK. Thanks. I guess I will post the code to the top of each page because I want videos to display properly on my Blog. Am I using a child theme by using DMS2? I don't think so but don't really know.

I can't understand why something that is such an integral part of a website as page titles would not be easy to do with one or two insertions, rather than on every page.

Please pass it on how necessary it is to include page titles in future DMS upgrades.

If you go to your WordPress Admin Dashboard > Appearance > Themes and if DMS is the active theme, then you have no child theme. You're free to use the child theme I created here - http://dannyholt.github.io/skeleton/

DMS is active. Thanks for the theme but I'll just finish the individual pages.

      Hi there,
I'm a big fan of Pagelines, and have been for years.
I'm trying to control the size of video embeds and having some difficulty. I see that I can just paste the Vimeo video URL into the post and an embed widget will automatically appear, which is great. But the embed box created is much taller that the video (689 x 1000 pixels) so the content sits in the middle of a tall black box, which looks awkward.
I tried using the full iFrame embed code from Vimeo, which solved the disproportionate embed frame size (or aspect ratio) issue, but despite specifying the dimensions I want (690 x 388), the videos displayed on the post are sized at 300 x 150 pixels.
I can't work out how to change either.
I'm using the latest version of Pagelines Framework (Pro) with the Agency them.
Any help or advice very much appreciated.
      Thanks,
      Dougal

      Hi Everyone,

I am having issues with being able to post to my blog with platform 5. Currently when i click publish, it just shows the homepage of MoonBodySoul.com. That is until i open the page editor and change the scope from "All of type: Posts" to "Current Page Only". Then I have to re-insert the menu header as well. This seems like a really dumb process. In past versions of pagelines, I could just post a blog and the menu would be there and there would be no formatting issues. What can I do to fix this?

How do you move the thumbnail on a blog post?  I need the thumbnails for the blogroll page, but they show up at the top of the actual post page.  Normally, this would be fine, but I've been requested to put it under the blog title.  Any suggestions?
      Thanks.

My client is asking for a new blog layout similar to the one found here:  http://blog.perkinswill.com/pokemon-augmented-reality-and-the-future-of-urban-design/
They have a splashy full-width background image overlaid with part of the blog and one sidebar.  The navigation arrows send you to the next post.
Does anyone know if this is even possible using Framework 5?  If so, can you send me some advice on how to get here?
      Totally stuck!
      Thanks.
