Drag & Drop on Tablet?

Recommended Posts

mikeyb25
I just got a new Samsung 10.1 inch tablet I absolutely love. Although I still have my laptop, I try to only carry my tablet most days... the only thing I need to do frequently I can't seem to do is use DMS correctly. :/

I just can't seem to drag and drop elements, or move elements around. I *can* increase/decrease their size, and increase/decrease offset... but *not* drag and drop. This is using touch AND a mouse.

Is there anyway to fix this? I would love to be able to layout sites on the go with DMS!

Hi,

Ae you saying that you can not use DMS on your laptop, as the drag and drop functionality isn't working ? If this is the case, then you will want to disable all active plugins and see if this resolves your issue.

Okay... just tried it! BUT... it didn't work. :(

Let me eblorated a bit... When I try to "drag and drop" the page just wants to scroll up and down. I also tried click and double-clicking... no luck. Have you used Android and successfully used the drag and drop? Any other ideas?

In order to use DMS you need to use Google Chrome, if this is working on a tablet then thats cool. However, as far as I am aware, DMS should only work on the desktop version of Chrome. If this is working on a droid tablet thats cool, but the plan isn't to use DMS on a tablet, due to the way they require the user to drag in order to scroll etc...

In regards to your laptop not working via your mouse, then the likely cause of this is a JS conflict (i.e. a script you have added) and/or a plugin. Are  you still having issues using your laptop ?

I forgot to mention... I am using Google Chrome on the tablet.

My mouse works, it's for my tablet, I'm trying to retire my laptop. So far, my tablet can do just about anything my laptop can do... except this unfortunately.

It would be cool if Pagelines developed DMS to be more functional with the Droid OS and touch screen devices.

I apologise, but as far as I am aware DMS requires a desktop version of Chrome. However, I will speak to our developers on your behalf, but I can't promise anything due to how tablets function with drag and drop already.

It 'a shame, in fact DMS does not work even on the new handheld touch with Crome desktop, you can not drag the sections, and to include them, at the moment I use a lenovo Yoga 2 pro with the 7, but only using the touch pad, if you use the touch screen does not work, now if you see the 60 /% of the traffic here in Europe is managed by tablets and smartphones, and DMS works well on these, but it is frustrating not to be able to use on the move or touch screens to compose sites hopefully provvediate as soon as possible, other issues such as framework or drop Headway permit.

Glad I'm not the only one with the issue.  Pagelines has a *great* team, I am sure if we keep on it they'll eventually add the feature for DMS to work better on touch screen devices.

I've added this as a feature request to our task manager for review, where our developers will discuss if this is worth implementing. In my honest opinion, I couldn't image using DMS on a tablet to develop, as there are so many things you can't do on a tablet that you can do on a desktop machine or laptop. Such as a decent code editor like Atom or SubLime Text just to name one.

Danny to me, that's kind of like saying " I just can't see why someone would want to check their emails on a phone... you don't have a big enough screen to read it or buttons to write it more comfortably."   I like to develop with a full monitor , but I do like to make some designs on the go, and my tablet looks a lot nicer than my laptop for some basic layouts.  I also see that desktops are starting to come with Android OS..and when that develops further, you bet there will be a need to drag and drop to work across the OS.

Just my opinion.

Yeah I completely understand what you're saying and I have passed this on our developers. However, you can't really compare reading emails on a phone and designing a website on a phone. The two are as different as night and day.

What I was trying to point out was, that due to the way mobile devices work with their touch screens and finger gestures, designing websites even making minor layout changes for me personally shouldn't be on a touch device and should be left to a desktop or laptop device. Especially, when you're using a web app that is specially designed to use drag and drop to create your layouts, the whole workflow for me personally would be a nightmare. You also do not have any desktop class apps such as a code editor, no web dev tools such as inspection tools etc...

Hi, I desperatly need some help fixing the DMS editor. It's not loading at all en gets stuck at 'Oops there may be an issue loading.'
I'm able to find this two warnings in chrome:

www.studiekeuzemaken.nl/:4607 Uncaught SyntaxError: Invalid or unexpected token
pl.editor.js:740 Uncaught TypeError: Cannot read property 'lang' of undefined
          at Object.reloadConfig (pl.editor.js:740)
          at Object.startUp (pl.editor.js:72)
          at HTMLDocument.<anonymous> (pl.editor.js:10)
          at i (jquery.js:2)
          at Object.fireWith [as resolveWith] (jquery.js:2)
          at Function.ready (jquery.js:2)
          at HTMLDocument.K (jquery.js:2)

When I dug into the first warning a little deeper (line 4607)I found out that there is a typo in a css that's causing the SyntaxError. Because the css is placed within a textbox and the editor is not loading I'm not able to fix this.

      What can I do?

      Please help!

      Hi Folk,
Can anyone help me please.  On a page on my site I placed an 'embed section' and inserted code from the Eviivo Booking system that seems to call scripts from their site.  After doing the PL5 editors will not load so I can't edit anything.  Is there anyway of disabling the section so I don;t have to rebuild the page?
      Thanks.

I am having an issue with DMS editor not loading.  Just keeps spinning and spinning.
Have tried several things - Logged in and out, cleared cache, deactivated all plugins, but the issue persists.
I even had our host restore from a backup a few weeks ago, when I know it WAS working, as I edited a text box on the homepage.  The restore from backup didn't help either.
Also, the front end of the site shows that the site is framed, or boxed now (whatever you call it), instead of full width as it was previously (last week).
Dev console shows that there are php errors in Google maps - file is attached.
Can someone please help?  Not sure what else I can do here...
      Thanks in advance.

      Hi,
When using the editor I am getting duplicate wordpress toolbars and an a nice error to go with it...
I have them stack 4 high at one point.  Goes away with a refresh then re-appears.
      very odd.
