Unlocking Templates

Recommended Posts

Am I missing something? Shouldn't I just be able to click on the lock/unlock icon on the top of a template and unlock it? Nothing happens. It's making it very challenging to work on this site. What's the trick?

HI Sheila,

Yeah you should just click it and then a modal windows appears asking you do you wish to confirm the unlink. If you're not seeing this modal, then it is likely you have a plugin or a script causing a conflict. You will need to disable all active plugins and remove any custom code you may have added and see if this resolves your issue.

Thanks Danny. I removed all the CSS which did in fact re-enable this function. I haven't the patience to add it all back one thing at a time to figure out what the issue is. Hopefully I won't need to deal with this once the site is live. Removing all Custom CSS leaves the site looking pretty awful! Do you know what kinds of CSS might cause this? If I posted my CSS would it be easy for someone to tell just looking at it? It doesn't seem to be a plug-in since removing the CSS fixed the issue. THANK YOU!

To be totally honest, I don't see how CSS can cause this, I was thinking it would be a JS issue. You're going to have to add the CSS one rule at a time to find the culprit, when you do can you add it to your reply so I can see it please.

Can't promise when I'll have time but hopefully after she goes live in the next week or so I can do that on the dev site. I'll post when and if I find the culprit. Thanks as always.

No problem and keep us posted, would be interested to see if this was caused by CSS.

Danny...I said I'd keep you posted.

So now that Stacey’s site is live and I’ve sped it up with Falcon Engine, etc… I’m exploring one of the clone sites to see if I can figure out what it is that was keeping me from unlocking the templates. I started with turning off all plug-ins and that didn’t change it. Then I removed all CSS and that did fix it. Then I added back in one section at a time. The very last thing before the media queries seems to be the culprit though I have NO idea why that would be. Thought I’d share it here in case you have any thoughts. Not a big deal though…

#fixed-top, .fixed-top-pusher {

    height: 160px !important;

}

AND…as it happens….that line of code is no longer in use in the live site and I can again access and unlock sections! YAY!

PS: Morris pointed out that "The fixed top pusher at its auto settings ensures that the DMS command lines can been seen. Altering it allows for it to 'fall behind' the fixed top header and hence you wont see the 'unlock ' command line."

I am amazed that CSS rule caused the issue, as I have just added that code to my test site and then refreshed. When I go back and click the unlink template, the unlink option works?

I don't know what to tell you. Maybe it was a combination of that with other CSS. At this point it's a dead issue. I hope it won't happen again.

Thanks for informing us, albeit an odd one to say the least. I can't even recreate it lol. It could well be like you say, a combination of other things.

      Hi
      I have a map here http://www.iloveoffset.com/maps/
      I want to add several pointer locations to the map, but when I do they do not appear.
      On this map there are 2 pointer locations and as you can there is only one visible.
      Earlier today I added 7 and could only see 4 so there is something odd going on.
      My theme is up to date

      Hello,
      I've been having trouble unlocking the template section for past couple of weeks. When I try clicking nothing happens.
      I've deleted my custom css and removed plugins. Im down to having only the following plugins:
      Akismet
      Contact Form 7
      DMS Professional Tools
      Pagelines Updater
      WooCommerce
      It was working fine before i have no idea what's going on with it.

      My DMS 2 site http://www.heart-stone.com/ will not save any new custom css... I can still edit templates and publish those but any custom css that I enter never saves.
      All WP files, themes, and plugins are up to date.
      Any thought about what might be causing this?

      Is there a way to edit the custom CSS via FTP? I know I can edit the custom code in the Chrome editor but is there a file path I can use to find and edit the CSS directly from our FTP?
      Thanks in advance for the help!

      Using navbar section with correctly configured WP menu to display main navigation at https://elenaangel.com.
      All fine in desktop viewport. Menu displays twice in hamburger mode. How to fix this please?
