Cannot upgrade to 2.x from 1.x

Recommended Posts

Hi. I'm having problems upgrading to DMS 2.x from 1.1.   I'm trying to follow your instructions as shown here:

To upgrade using the built in WordPress updates system:

  • Download the PageLines Updater Plugin from my-account.
  • Make sure to add your DMS key into the licence area.
  • After a few moments WordPress should inform you of an update.
  • BE SURE TO MAKE A BACKUP

I downloaded the PageLines Updater Plugin from my my-account.  The next set of instructions, "Make sure to add your DMS key into the license area" does not seem to make sense, perhaps there is something missing from your instructions? I am trying to guess what might be missing.  The Plugin automatically downloaded to the Downloads folder on my computer. I'm presuming I am then supposed to install it to the Wordpress folder of my blog?  If so, how? Do I import the zip file from the Templates page? Do I upload it to a specific folder using FTP? If so, how do I then get to the 'license area' ?

Sorry, I'm lost here.

HI,

Once you have downloaded the pagelines updater plugin, you install it like you would any WordPress plugin. Once installed, there will be a new PageLines Licences menu in your WordPress Admin Dashboard under the Dashboard menu. You enter your licence here.

So I would suggest adding the italicized parts as shown below.

To upgrade using the built in WordPress updates system:

  • Download the PageLines Updater Plugin from my-account to your computer.
  • Upload the zip file to your Plugins.
  • Make sure to add your DMS key into the licence area.
  • After a few moments WordPress should inform you of an update.
  • BE SURE TO MAKE A BACKUP [instructions here]

Also - alas - after installing, there is no option to upgrade to 2.x   :(

Suggestions?

OK, the updater is going to give you a notification for a DMS 2.x update unfortunately. I thought it may be worth a shot, but it isn't going to do.

So what you need to do is:

1. Perform a backup of your site or speak to your host provider and see if they perform daily backups.

2. Once you have a backup, download DMS 2.x from your PageLines account and extract the zip, making sure the folder name is called dms. If it isn't rename to dms.

3. After it has been downloaded, login to your WordPress Admin Dashboard and switch theme to Twenty Fourteen, Twenty Thirteen etc...

4. Now using an FTP client connect to your website and navigate to the following directory wp-content/themes/

5. In this directory, you should see a folder called dms, please rename this to anything you like, but old_dms will suffice.

6. Once renamed, go to the DMS 2.x folder you downloaded and upload the dms folder to your themes directory via your FTP client.

7. After the upload has been completed, you should have two instances of dms, one folder called old_dms and the other dms.

8. Now log back into your WordPress Admin Dashboard > Appearance and now active the DMS 2.x version theme. You can tell the difference between the two DMS themes by their version number.

Once DMS 2.x is active, view your site. There may be some differences to your layout or sections, this is due to the changes from DMS 1.x to DMS 2.x and may require some additional configuration or replacing some sections.

Once you're happy, you're free to remove the old instance of DMS, you can tell which is which by the version number.

One final thing, make sure you perform a backup as a precaution. I would also recommend add any custom CSS/LESS CSS you have into a code editor and save the file to keep as a backup. Some users have reported that their CSS/LESS CSS has disappeared after updating, these are most likely related to the server configuration and not the DMS upgrade process.

I am having an issue with DMS editor not loading.  Just keeps spinning and spinning.
Have tried several things - Logged in and out, cleared cache, deactivated all plugins, but the issue persists.
I even had our host restore from a backup a few weeks ago, when I know it WAS working, as I edited a text box on the homepage.  The restore from backup didn't help either.
Also, the front end of the site shows that the site is framed, or boxed now (whatever you call it), instead of full width as it was previously (last week).
Dev console shows that there are php errors in Google maps - file is attached.
Can someone please help?  Not sure what else I can do here...
      Thanks in advance.

      Hi there,
I've got an issue with 3 websites built with DMS since I migrated them from http to https that I need help with please.
When any changes are made - e.g. new posts added or existing posts amended - certain sections of the live site seem to break e.g. image headers hang and don't load (b/g on canvas section), sliders hang and don't load (Revslider), flipper section doesn't load.
Logging in and then clicking 'Edit the site using DMS' seems to fix the problem. Often if I try to open up another browser window to edit the site / re publish I'm unable to as the page wont load / hangs while trying to load.
Any ideas how to fix this? On a couple of the sites I've installed a caching plugin as I thought it might be a loading speed issue but it's still happening.
Website URL's can be provided privately.
      Many thanks in advance.
