User Access and Visual Editor

Recommended Posts

I know where the instructions to lock down the visual editor are but here is my question.  I have several plugins (woo commerce, events plugin, thumbnail regenerator, etc) installed on a site that the user will need access.

Based on what I see, it seems like the default setting is let admin access the "DMS Editor".  I've tested the Editor profile, and Store Manager profile but neither have access to all the plugins.

Will following the "Multiple User Access" instructions let UserA (assigned admin privileges but not included in the usernames below) access all WP tools and plugins other than the Visual Editor?  Also do I need to make this change in a child theme?

Multiple User Access

If you work in a team and wish to have multiple users access to the Visual Editor but keep your client lockout, use this method. Open up your wp-config.php file and find the following code:

  1. define('WP_DEBUG', false);

Add below that, the following code (remember to replace the usernames in the example below to your teams usernames):

  1. define( 'PL_EDITOR_LOCK', 'andrew,bob,chris,daniel,eric' );

Your changes will look similar to this:

  1. define('WP_DEBUG', false);
  2. define( 'PL_EDITOR_LOCK', 'andrew,bob,chris,daniel,eric' );

Yeah if I understand you correctly, you want to assign a user to the admin group, but not allow them access to the DMS editor ? If this is correct, then if you use the Multi user access instructions it should prevent them from accessing the DMS visual editor.

Another alternative would be to use plugins and create new user roles, and just assign give them access to certain WP menu items. There is definitely a plugin that allows you to do this, but I can't remember the name.

Please search our forums, before posting!

      I have a map here http://www.iloveoffset.com/maps/
      I want to add several pointer locations to the map, but when I do they do not appear.
      On this map there are 2 pointer locations and as you can there is only one visible.
      Earlier today I added 7 and could only see 4 so there is something odd going on.
      My theme is up to date

      I've been having trouble unlocking the template section for past couple of weeks. When I try clicking nothing happens.
      I've deleted my custom css and removed plugins. Im down to having only the following plugins:
      Contact Form 7
      DMS Professional Tools
      Pagelines Updater
      It was working fine before i have no idea what's going on with it.

      My DMS 2 site http://www.heart-stone.com/ will not save any new custom css... I can still edit templates and publish those but any custom css that I enter never saves.
      All WP files, themes, and plugins are up to date.
      Any thought about what might be causing this?

      Is there a way to edit the custom CSS via FTP? I know I can edit the custom code in the Chrome editor but is there a file path I can use to find and edit the CSS directly from our FTP?
      Thanks in advance for the help!

      All fine in desktop viewport. Menu displays twice in hamburger mode. How to fix this please?
