Navigation with a centering logo that transitions well to mobile.

More blog post "flipper, slider" like tools...more ways to display blog post.

Optional WooCommerce Layouts.  I like the new style of the DMS store but having different styles would be nice.  Items such as price area, how popover works, those sorts of things.

jmad, do you have a link to a site(s) that has your desired navigation look/transition?

Do you have example/inspiration links for the other sort of items you've mentioned (e.g. flipper, slider, blog post displays)?

Good, hope they help.  I particularly like http://www.ipsocreative.com, how it locks to the top on scroll and how it handles the shift to a smaller sized screen moving the menu to the top and the full cover menu.

Here are something’s I would love to purchase or see implemented into DMS:

- A resizing fixed nav bar that got smaller or bigger as the user scrolled

-More layout options currently… there are only 2 full and boxed would love to see a full width or boxed with vertical nav on the right or left http://elegantthemes.com/preview/Divi/centered-logo-dark/  and http://elegantthemes.com/preview/Divi/home-basic/

-Or maybe just an option to choose where the header area is placed (who says the header needs to be at the top all the time)

-A floating section at the bottom of the screen kind of like the salebar

My idea came about this morning when I was editing one of my posts.

It would be great to have some way of separating two halves of the text box section. So you could add in a break and then be able to slide both half sections to create either an L shape layout for your posts or T shaped layout. I think it would be Quite a valuable design option.

It would be absolutely awesome if drag and drop features worked better using Google Chrome on Android tablets.

I would love to see a section that interacts directly with WooCommerce. So basically a front-end product uploader/editor. I have seen a several plugins as WooCommerce extensions and other third party extensions however non provide a mirror image of product configuration. Essentially I want to have a section where users can upload and configure a new product to add to my store OR to add to their own store set up based on their subscription level. I would configure the subscriptions via another third party plugin.

WooCommerce!  Different Layouts.  I'd really like to see some different store layouts.  I have clients often want something that looks/functions like the Avada Theme store, float over image changes to different product image.

Although, I think those might be options better suited for core DMS?

Hi,

Great idea, however, this improvement would be more a WooCommerce enhancement than DMS. You might want to check out Dokan http://wedevs.com/theme/dokan/ I haven't tested myself yet but am tracking the development and I am pretty sure they have a plugin version now.

Cheers

I have reviewed Dokan and purchased the WP User Frontend Pro plugin which Dokan uses. However I am having difficulty configuring the plugin the way I want. Dokan is a theme and I purchased DMS  so I don't have to purchase a new theme. I have a support request into the makers of the plugin so we'll see where that take me. I appreciate the feedback and suggestions.

Quality. I suggest quality.  I'd like to be supportive and start buying some add-ons but it's really difficult having been burnt by several of the previous store developers no longer supporting their products...after very short lived (6 months in some cases) product life cycle.

We already have a list of "built-in" DMS sections that have quirks still to be resolved.  Postpins spacing, Hero switching to left to name a couple so adding store products with quirks doesn't seem like too much fun.

I've been looking at a few products but here is the problem.  Many of them don't work properly in the store demo.  If they don't work there why would a buyer think they will work correctly in the wild?  Point and case.

http://pagelines.kyle-irving.co.uk/hover-news/  isn't responsive

http://themes.groundwork.cc/navbanner/  the icon drops below the logo...I guess scale logo via css but hey it's sloppy in demo

http://voyant.enriquechavez.co/sections/pin-switch/  pin area moves over text on browser scaling.

To the developers who own these products, I'm not picking on you...yours are the products I looked most closely at purchasing but not the only ones with issues.  I know you all work hard on these products.  Quality is important, especially when Pagelines and subsequently the third-party developers have some ground to makeup on consumer trust.

I also looked at SingleBits and very nice.

Thanks for  your feedback Jmad.

I would like to say that Hover News is responsive. I am not sure what your expectations of responsive are, a few people assume that responsive means that content will adjust to fit the browser as you increase or decrease the size of the window. And in some cases this is possible.

However, that is not responsive - responsive means that the content sizes its self based on the browser window detected. So if you look at in on a mobile or tablet or a laptop or a desktop or whatever - once the page is loaded it loads to fill the browser window. If you are increasing and decreasing the size of your browser window and the content does not automatically resize or resize correctly this does not mean it is not responsive - after all that is not usual web browsing behaviour - try reloading the page at the chosen window size and see what happens.

In fact there are many free tools that will emulate browser window sizes for you. If you are brave Chrome Canary has a browser window sizing in dev tools https://www.google.co.uk/intl/en/chrome/browser/canary.html Be aware though that this developer only browser can cause you many headaches as it can make you think other things are borked  - which aren't - its just the pitfalls of working in a developer environment.

Often DMS sections will use various scripts to perform different functions and that will potentially mean that the section will not stretch or shrink as the browser is resized manually. In deed one would like this to be the case. As we do spend on a lot of time resizing our browsers but then we are developers not the end users and I am pretty sure end users - visitors to people's websites don't start resizing their browsers to see if the content will automatically resize.

I suspect that this is what you mean when you say browser scaling and I hope that this clarifies what you should expect from responsive behaviour.

I understand what the difference between responsive design and alternate is.  I also understand responsive design based on browser size or device type.  Responsive design is about providing an optimal viewing experience across a wide range of screen and device sizes.  I have a decent sized monitor that I have a browser window open in about half of it.   Hover News was bunching up on itself at that size...not a good user experience and clients wouldn't accept that for responsive.

People do resize browser windows, I see them do it all the time when working with clients.  When I noticed the issue, I had Chrome open had clicked on the demo, resized the window to look at my calendar and when I looked back at the demo it was all wonky.

I opened my browser at 1500px and News looks great until you hit 1475 or so.  Then it doesn't scale BUT the rest of the site does SO I would say the site is responsive but not News.  I understand that if I open the browser or refresh at 1200 for example News looks good but that isn't really the definition of responsive and certainly not what clients expect or how the rest of DMS works.

It comes down to could I put that on a client site and they would be happy? Probably not.

I know tools like this plugin take a great deal of time and energy to build.  I think the products in the store and the quality of product and support is improved.

jmad, thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts again. i think we will have to agree to disagree regarding the need for a section to resize as you manually increase of decrease a browser window. and sometimes its just not possible and you do have to refresh. we do appreciate your thoughts and will continue to explore this.

there are two demos on the page - the top one demonstrates grid mode with a fixed content width using a grid of 4 (not full width) the last one demonstrates row closed with full width. either grid mode or row closed can be either full width or content width. you can choose whether to use a 3, 4 or 6 grid. you can display or hide meta and you can set individual category colors or labels, there are many other options as well. we think there is good quality here in providing a user centric product that allows people to display their posts in an engaging way.

if you don't think the plugin is right for you or your clients then please do not buy it.

for other users who may be wondering if or how hover news is responsive based on the size of the browser detected - in this screencast you can see both grid and row closed mode in a variety of sizes, as stated, occasionally it is necessary to refresh the browser window - this is only necessary due to emulating the device browser window - if it was the device it would be sized correctly on the first load: http://screencast.com/t/6GUekvztKn

jmad, i cannot speak for previous developers who have stopped supporting their PageLines products, neither can i speak for James or Enrique who you also highlighted. i have read what you have to say and responded. If you ask anyone  who we have provided support to they will tell you we are always willing to do what we can, even to the point of logging into their sites and fixing other problems for them. we are very interested in anyone who can recommend feature improvements to us.

As far as agreeing to disagree, well the rest of DMS sections are based mainly on browser width and don't require a refresh.  Other plugins on Themeforest handle the same effect without a refresh.  So I'm thinking it's certainly possible to make the resize happen off of browser size without a refresh.

The intent of my original post wasn't to point out what I think are specific shortcomings of certain products but I'm asking for the developers to address issues so as users we can be comfortable with what we are purchasing.  DMS is supposedly a product for perfectionist.

I'd be glad to purchase your product if it worked like I expect it too.  But having most of a site handle "responsive" one way and a section handle "responsive" in a different fashion just doesn't make sense from a client or user perspective.  If the majority of the site responds based on browser size then sections that don't just look broken.

Good luck with all your products.

I'd like the option of being able to stylize the top and bottom of a canvas... crenelations, curves, overlapping text etc. I think it would make my sites a little more interesting. Even better, maybe I could upload a PNG at say 2000px wide and have that used as the top or bottom, that way I could really reinforce my clients brand thorough their site :)

How about working with other premium developers such as Timely, JIG, FileBase and asking them to rollout DMS specific modules as part of the DMS install? I always worry when I have to use a plugin that isn't native to DMS now.

I'd like to see more functionality built in to the base DMS platform tbh, so more options when using the mediabox, textbox or IBoxes etc.

Keep up the good work :)

Here's one thing that would be minor for you, but major for people with low vision or near blindness.  I administer a Pagelines DMS site that is nationally read, and the author is a well known disability rights activist. He is also blind, in the sense that if he puts his iPad up really close to his face with pinch-zoom, he can use the web (and does).  However, he and many of his users are  unhappy with the trend in responsive design that disables user-scalability on devices because of the erroneous assumption that if a site is well-designed, it shouldn't need to be zoomed.  That assumption is only correct if you are assuming your users aren't almost blind, or low vision.

I really wish you'd just put a check box somewhere  that would allow the responsive theme to enable user-scalable=YES !  It would really help a whole community of forgotten and  overlooked web users, and it wouldn't take your developers a ton of time at all.

@bscherr

You could add  <meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1">  to your custom scripts area and I think that should fix.  You will probably need to double check that it doesn't cause any odd actions in things like sliders.

Thanks for the replay, but that doesn't work. There's a bunch of other threads on it, and no good answers. I've searched the web, the codex etc... and it looks like I'm going to have to  mess around in the PHP, which is something I NEVER want to do. The reason I bring it up is because many people who choose WP do so because it is the standard bearer for accessibility.  Non-disabled designers assuming that "because the letters fit" that it's accessible is short sighted. All over the forum there are designers "failing to see" why zoom would be needed, and stating that disabling the zoom "is correct".

As an administrator of a blog that focuses on disability rights, I can tell you  that a huge number of low vision and partially blind people use iPads, hold them really close to their face and use the zoom to see the words. The blogger I am supporting is a disability rights activiest, and a contributor to the Huffington Post, and many of his readers are pointing out that pinch/zoom is enabled there, so they are going there to read his content. Not good all in all.

Anyway another one of your people just told me to install a child theme, then put a hook into my functions.php file.  I will try it, but honestly to get that feature I shouldn't have to mess around with php files.

All in all I am really happy with Pagelines, but I think assuming that responsive design will meet all user needs is wrong.

I just tested and if you add that to the custom scripts area and clear your cache via DMS resets, it works.  I have it working on msdbuilder1.flywheelsites.com (view with login flywheel pass is build-1).  The page looks crazy because I'm testing other things but literally, all I did was add that bit of code.

Hope you can get it to work.

Well... it's just odd. I added exactly that line to my custom scripts , flushed all the css/less in the resets section of pagelines, and I still can't pinch/zoom on my ipad. How hard would it really be to add this functionality to DMS?

Is there a way to use the whole image in the feature slider as a link? I have searched the forum and noticed in 2011 this was posted and the reply was no. Has anything changed in 4 years?

I'm using features on the landing page of my website. My issue is that when the page loads the feature slider will resize itself every time. I've tried to tinker around with the layout of the site (static, responsive, %, px) and with the source images (not to big, the actual size) but it doesn't help. Any tips?

      The features images are not displaying properly. The first image is blank and the second displays this script: if (document:)document.getElementbyld("divcb6b4a52").style.height = (441-440)+"px";

There should only be 8 images to display, but it adds two images before that are blank and have that text I indicated.

      Hello

We've recently added the top rated Word Press translation tool WPML to our Website in order to translate our site into a second language. Everything worked like a charm, except one thing: the PlatformPro features.

Our home page was designed in English with the features slider and some text, using what is now the Select Feature-Set for Posts & 404 Pages option so that we could custom create our features. The features are tagged as default-features so that they may be selected to appear in the scroll. The thing is, we cannot translate them.

Can someone please help me figure out a work around please?

      Many thanks

Maybe I'm missing something that's staring me in the face, but I can't always find the right prefix for store products (e.g. Floating Icons / Social and Hooker).

And this particular subforum does not offer the option to select a prefix but the last time I posted here, my post was automatically (and incorrectly) prefixed with Viewer.

Perhaps the subforums can be updated to reflect current product status?
