DMS2 RevSlider - Move Title and Text Block to the Left

Recommended Posts

chules

All,

I am using DMS2 on my site at http://www.gitotech.com.  I am trying to figure out how to move the entire slide title and text block to the left.  As you can see on my home page I have slides and wish the title and text to be positioned further to the left so they do not run into my images.  I have plenty of space available to the left.

Any advice would be appreciated.  I have tied using Firebug to figure this out but have not been successful.

thank you

Chules

hello chules

you might need to ajust the revslider section.php on line 212 - 221

there you will find the following code:

if($the_location == 'centered'){
                        $the_x = 'center';
                        $caption_class = 'centered sfb stb';
                    } elseif ($the_location == 'right-side'){
                        $the_x = '560';
                        $caption_class = 'right-side sfr str';
                    } else {
                        $the_x =  '0';
                        $caption_class = 'left-side sfl stl';
                    }

change the position of $the_x = '560';

If you might have further questions, just let me know.

Nice greetings, Sii

Is there a recommended best practice to make this change?  Do I use a customization section or do I just edit the php file directly?

Thank you for the assistance.

hi chules,

depending. if you like to use revslider in the default way at a different part of your theme, than it's better to create a new section based on revslider with the adjustments included. If you are using the revslider only once with the customization included, than you can adjust it directly in the revslider section.

If you might have further questions, just let me know.

Hello.  After making this change, the next release (applied) of DMS will break this, correct?

I'm using the DMS child theme (Skeleton), so I'm wondering if there is a way to prevent these changes from being overwritten.?

Hi rlogan

If you need to modify a section, you can copy this to your child

For example

wp-contents > theme > YOUR CHILD THEME > sections > YOUR SECTION TO MODIFY

Please, you take a look to this

If you download the Advanced version of Skeleton here - http://dannyholt.github.io/skeleton/help/

You can see that it includes a sections folder, this folder allows you to copy a section (masthead is included) and by copying a sections folder in your case RevSlider to Skeletons section folder, you can override the section and keep these changes safe from updates.

chules - Why can't you just use the align text option ?

If you want more control then you can use the Extra Slider Options and add your own HTML.

Danny - Thank you for the Skeleton Adv.  I put it in place.

I have the RevSlider set to the default text alignment (Left) and I've tried to specifically set alignment at Left.  This is my result, based on the X axis setting in the RevSlider > Section Folder > section.php

The result looks ok, but I was curious if I could move the text even further to the left.

Thanks,

Ryan

There really is no need to edit the sections.php file, you can position the text in the slider how you like. All you need to do is change the data-x and data-y in the markup. For example:

Add the following to the Extra Slide Options:

<div class="caption" data-x="-120" data-y="120" data-speed="900" data-start="500" data-easing="easeOutBack">
<h2 class="slider-text"><span class="slide-title">Hello World!</span><small>Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipisicing elit.</small></span></h2>
</div>

Which will look like this - https://cloudup.com/cT5SYehIair

The minus value on data-x is the horizontal position of the text and data-y is the vertical. You can find more information here - http://www.orbis-ingenieria.com/code/documentation/documentation.html#!/documenter_cover

Yeah, because you're using minus X/Y, you're going to need to use a media query to resolve this.

Ok, that's what I figured for that.  However, I have another site with the same issue and i'm not doing anything fancy (no x/y manipulation) for the RevSlider text.  On my iPhone, the text runs off the screen.

The title and text are too long, what we do on our demos is use breaks after a certain amount of words like this:

Property Inspection<br />Professionals

Chicago area's leading property inspection company for over 24 years.<br/> Over 90% of our business
comes from word-of-mouth referrals and our inspectors<br /> are graduates of the Illinois Inspector
Training Institute. We are not just endorsed by prominent community members...<br />they also use
our services!

Try something like that. However, the paragraph "Chicago..." is in my opinion far too long, you should probably shorten it, or use custom CSS to reduce the text size.

Hi Rob,

To position your text exactly how you want, you will need to use media queries.

Hi Danny

I've tried the following but it's not working... what am I doing wrong? I've tested it on my phone which has a screen width of 650px.

@media screen and (min-device-width: 750px) {
<div class="caption" data-x="-200" data-y="120" data-speed="900" data-start="500" data-easing="easeOutBack">
<h2 class="slider-text"><span class="slide-title"><i>INNOVATION</br>BROUGHT US HERE</i></span><small>Unrivaled. The Grand Cherokee sets new<br/>standards for performance,<br/>luxury and attention to detail.</small></span></h2>
</div>
}

You can check out the page in question here: http://www.jeepeastlondon.co.za/new-vehicles/grand-cherokee/

Cheers

Rob

      Trying to convert a site over to PL5 from DMS2. Can we use revslider? Can any portion of DMS2 be editable or imported through PL5?
      I'm trying to wrap my head around the new PL5 os, but things have changed so much it like learning a new software. I DO like the new UI! Great job.

      Hi
      I have a map here http://www.iloveoffset.com/maps/
      I want to add several pointer locations to the map, but when I do they do not appear.
      On this map there are 2 pointer locations and as you can there is only one visible.
      Earlier today I added 7 and could only see 4 so there is something odd going on.
      My theme is up to date

      Hi Guys,
      I just went live with this site. http://bikenet.org/
      I can see the video background in Firefox, Chrome and IE on my computer as well as my husband's computer and my phone. So I am not able to see any problem.
      But, my client says she cannot see the video background in Chrome?? Any ideas?
      Let me know. Thanks!

      Problem: Full Screen Revslider content runs off the screen on mobile devices (particularly calls to action buttons).  I've used the <br> to break up the text, however the call to action buttons run off the screen.  Therefore without making the fix too technical (and I can see some VERY technical resolutions on here) my client just wants to simple centre justify the text when being viewed on a mobile device.
      Any ideas on how best to achieve this in a simple, non too technical way?
      Thanks very much in advance

      Hello,
      I've been having trouble unlocking the template section for past couple of weeks. When I try clicking nothing happens.
      I've deleted my custom css and removed plugins. Im down to having only the following plugins:
      Akismet
      Contact Form 7
      DMS Professional Tools
      Pagelines Updater
      WooCommerce
      It was working fine before i have no idea what's going on with it.
