DMS2 Logo/Nav bar menu options inadequate

Recommended Posts

Hello,

@pagelines dev team - I am a little frustrated by your lack of easily editable options for the menu bar. Could you please add a plethora of options to the nav bar! It's the one piece of the site that is constant. Why is there no height options easily addable to the menu?!! I had to modify multiple pieces of CSS, which I am not a pro at to make the menu have the look I was going for. Also why is there not an option for the shrinking menu? It has has almost become an industry standard in new sites. I can't find any appropriate documentation for customizing the navigation bar. The docs.pagelines site did not seem to have a section devoted to it- this seems to be a major omission.

http://ascend.today/ if you would like to see the start of the menu bar that I have achieved.

Question: How can I make my logo/nav bar start big and then shrink when scrolling down?

Thanks.

Chad.

If you are wanting to have a large logo/nav and then for it to resize with scroll, this isnt something you can achieve with CSS/Html on its own. You need to have javascript to implement style change actions. While DMS is a Framework, it is also themed to a certain extent. Danny will tell you that they are always looking to extend options for styling, but with the proviso that it does not make DMS over bloated. Most of the CSS you will want to use to custom style can be found here with search, even though Pagelines support is not for Custom CSS, but rather bugs that are found

A similar question to your second has been asked here   but that wont be much use if you are not comfortable with javascript

Chrome Developer tools - please use them. If you are not sure how, then it is easy to learn

Be inventive in your keyword search of the forum ie Navi > Navbar > menu > tabs > font > color. Your answer lies there somewhere!

Thank you for your response! I just feel that page lines could provide better documentation for its paying loyal customers. After all we buy page lines being told we don't need to be coding pros. I have figured out a lot of things but really could use a cheat sheet  for knowing what to copy & paste or modify to abject aspects of the site. It shocks me that we don't have more guidance in something as important as the nav bar.

Hi Chad,

The documentation is on our to-do-list and we definitely understand that they're not adequate at the moment. However, what you're trying to do, is increase the height, the reason as to why there is no height option is because (in my opinion) it will make the nav in most cases look rather odd.

When it comes to screen real estate, most navigation bars do not exceed 50 pixels in height for this reason, especially those navigation bars that are fixed.

However, I will pass on your feedback to our developers.

Thanks Danny!

As far as screen real estate, It's actually a very common industry practice to have a large nav bar on a page load that shrinks to a standard size after a downward scroll. It is becoming even more common these days. I am making edits to my site so show you why I want a large branding area on the initial nav bar before scroll down.

Sites/themes such as these depict what I am wanting:

http://www.ibm.com/us/en/

http://netdna.webdesignerdepot.com/uploads7/how-to-create-a-resizing-menu-bar/

These are just  few.

That is not common industry practice, it's just a style of navigation a number of websites have adopted. I could link you over two hundred websites where there fixed navigation doesn't utilise that effect and instead use a similar style to our fixed nav.

For example:

http://getbootstrap.com/

http://foundation.zurb.com/

http://code.tutsplus.com/

https://atom.io/

Also, that IBM nav is awful.

Sorry industry practice is the wrong word. It is becoming a very popular design choice. And yes, IBM sucked at it. My favorite is the salient theme (the last one).

      Hi
      I have a map here http://www.iloveoffset.com/maps/
I want to add several pointer locations to the map, but when I do they do not appear.
On this map there are 2 pointer locations and as you can there is only one visible.
Earlier today I added 7 and could only see 4 so there is something odd going on.
My theme is up to date

      Hello,
I've been having trouble unlocking the template section for past couple of weeks. When I try clicking nothing happens.
I've deleted my custom css and removed plugins. Im down to having only the following plugins:
      Akismet
      Contact Form 7
      DMS Professional Tools
      Pagelines Updater
      WooCommerce
It was working fine before i have no idea what's going on with it.

My DMS 2 site http://www.heart-stone.com/ will not save any new custom css... I can still edit templates and publish those but any custom css that I enter never saves.
All WP files, themes, and plugins are up to date.
Any thought about what might be causing this?

Is there a way to edit the custom CSS via FTP? I know I can edit the custom code in the Chrome editor but is there a file path I can use to find and edit the CSS directly from our FTP?
Thanks in advance for the help!

Using navbar section with correctly configured WP menu to display main navigation at https://elenaangel.com.
All fine in desktop viewport. Menu displays twice in hamburger mode. How to fix this please?
