Shortcode not working - DMS2

Recommended Posts

Dear Pagelines team,

DMS2 it's a amazing framework but now I (just me?!) have a big problem: shortcodes simple not working.
I didn't find other issues like this in the forum.

Basic informations from a brand new test site (this morning):
- New istallation wordpress (last version 3.9.1)
- New installation DMS 2 (version 1.1.1 wordpress repository)
- Everything at the start point (no plugins - no changes)

- Hostgator
Test site: dms.ferienwohnunggardasee.biz

Actions:
Copied and Pasted the same shortcode from the http://demo.pagelines.me/tools/
in a page (content)= shortcode not working,
in a media box = shortcode not working.

Am I missing something?
I had no problems in using shortcodes with the older versions (Pagelines theme and the DMS1).

Thank you for some help!

Hi,

From the looks of it, you have spaces in between your shortcodes, WordPress doesn't like this, as it adds p tags between each space. To resolve your issue format your shortcodes so that there are no spaces or breaks between them.

Like this:

[shortcode code]

What you have is this:

[shortocode

code]

I think what Danny is implying. Do not add the shortcode WP visual editor. It needs to be added in text/html

I can not see why you are having problems with your mediabox

Chrome Developer tools - please use them. If you are not sure how, then it is easy to learn

Be inventive in your keyword search of the forum ie Navi > Navbar > menu > tabs > font > color. Your answer lies there somewhere!

Hi guys,

thanks for the reply.

I allways right the code just in text/html. (see please new image).
I even put the shortcode between [pl_raw][/pl_raw] and add the code without spaces or breaks.

Nothing happens.

If I put the same code in DMS1 and Pagelines theme, works without problems.

Ok, I find another way.
Better to say "2" other ways.

Way 1.
Since DMS is connected with Bootstrap css it becomes possible to call the classes from bootstrap like this:
 <button class="btn btn-large btn-primary" type="button">Large button</button>

The link to bootstrap base css is http://getbootstrap.com/2.3.2/base-css.html

Just, with this way, some code not working.

Way 2.
Install a plugin: WordPress Twitter Bootstrap CSS

After activate it don't forget to go to settings!

TA-DA!
Everything Works! Shortcodes are back.

Conclusion:
I thing it's a Bug and I think also "I am not the only one" (like John Lennon says...) to have found it.

Anyway I hope this can be of help to someone else.

I like DMS and I am very grateful to the developers for the free version.

Thank you all.

No bug I have those shortcodes working fine on my site without no plugins. Therefore, the issue is certainly on your end.

Also, I can't say for certain, but I wouldn't recommend using that Bootstrap CSS plugin as it will likely conflict with DMS and it's styling.

Danny,

yes, it's true and you are right.
I only saw after leaving the admin area.

The Bootstrap CSS plugin can't be used.

At the moment the only solution - for my problem - remains html.

As you can see (I used your system to share - thanks for teaching :))
the same page works perfectly with the theme PageLines (installed now)

Pagelines theme here > https://cloudup.com/chEAtVATzbY

As I said before, everything is up to date and perfectly intact.

If this is not a bug I don't know what else it could be.

Well it's not a bug as I have already said I have shortcodes working on both the WordPress content editor for both a post and a page. I also have shortcodes working in a MediaBox.

Therefore, can you provide a screenshot of the post or page editor in the WordPress backend where you added the code please.

Also, contact our helpdesk with the following information:

A link to this topic so they have something to reference

A link to the site in question

Provide your admin username/password

Make sure all plugins are disabled

Make sure you have DMS debug mode active.

OK, I have viewed your site and as I mentioned in one of my replies above, you have line breaks in your code, for example:

[pl_carousel name="PageLinesCarousel"][pl_carouselimage first="yes" title="Slide 1" imageurl="" ]
Here is the first slide and it's caption.
[/pl_carouselimage][pl_carouselimage title="Slide 2" imageurl=""]
Here is the second slide, in all its glory.
[/pl_carouselimage]

Do not just copy and paste shortcodes, as in the demo they have linebreaks to make them easier to read. Remove all linebreaks and the shortcode will work. For example:

[pl_carousel name="PageLinesCarousel"][pl_carouselimage first="yes" title="Slide 1" imageurl="" ]Here is the first slide and it's caption.[/pl_carouselimage][pl_carouselimage title="Slide 2" imageurl=""]Here is the second slide, in all its glory.[/pl_carouselimage]

Like so.

Danny,

for me it's ok so.
We can't start from the beginning again.

The site is done.
As I said before it ist possible to write the html code in the post/page content.
Shortcodes are not essential, are only practical.

The problem remains.

I installed DMS2 in two new sites in 2 different hosting (one is hostgator).
Wordpress last version, no plugins, and no changes.
If you try to do the same I guess the result should be the same.

I like to use differents themes and frameworks but I must be productive and go on.

I will try to use the next version because I'm also curious.

Thank you for your kindness and patience.

Not sure what you mean by the problem remains, there isn't any problem shortcodes work in the Mediabox section, NextBox section and in the WordPress content editor such as Posts and Pages. The issue you're experiencing is that you have copied and pasted shortcodes from our documentation and have them in a format that WordPress doesn't like i.e. it is adding linebreaks, which corrupts the shortcode.

I have also just this moment added those same shortcodes in the correct format into my test site and have no issue, the shortcodes display as intended. I also demonstrated this in my first reply above.

Also what do you mean that it isn't possible to write HTML in the post/page content, it is, I have write HTML code in the post/page content editor all the time. The only way your HTML wouldn't work in the WordPress editor is if your HTML code isn't valid or you're using the Visual Editor and not the Text Editor.

Sorry!!

I did not mean "it isn't"
I wanted to say "it is"!

The right sentence is:
"it is possible to write the html code in the post/page content."

But not, written in any way (not copied), shortcode.
The same shortcode that works perfectly in Dms(1) and PageLines theme.

This topic is for me closed (not solved).

Thank you.

I apologise, but there really isn't anything to resolve, the issue you're experiencing is caused by how you have added the shortcodes. I have already posted an image of shortcodes working for me in a MediaBox, I have also explained as to why you're having this issue.

Your shortcodes are not in the correct format, if you add them in the correct format, they work without any issue.

Also, I am not sure what you mean by writing HTML in the post/page content editor, you can write HTML code in the post/page content editor, as long as you have the Text editor selected and not the visual one.

Updating.

I tried now different versions of the framework.

"All" versions can be found here

Versions I tried and results:

Wordpress repository DMSVersion: 1.1.1= no ok
Wordpress repository DMSVersion: 1.1.0= no ok
Wordpress repository DMSVersion: 1.0.3.7 = no ok
Wordpress repository DMSVersion: 1.0.3= no ok
Wordpress repository DMSVersion: 1.0.2= ok

Older versions will automatically ask you to update to version 1.1.8.
Others not.
Please note that the latest version in the repository is 1.1.1!

The version 1.1.8 recognizes the shortcode perfectly.

IMPORTANT:
doesn't matter whether shortcode is written in visual or in text mode!
It makes no difference! Shortcodes are recognizes.

Curiously version 1.1.8. does not contain any preloaded templates!
Empty!

I suppose the most recent version is the 1.1.8.

Possible?

The versions on wordpress.org are not the same as the versions here.

DMS v1

Latest FULL version:  1.1.8 available from www.pagelines.com

Latest FREE version: 1.0.3.7 available on wordpress.com

DMS v2
Latest FULL version: 2.1.1 available from www.pagelines.com

Latest FREE version: 1.1 available on wordpress.com

The versions are always '1' behind on wordpress.org so the updater will update you to the latest version on that branch.

Unless something has changed in wordpress, you cannot simply paste shortcodes into the visual editor, or it will convert the [ and ] into html entities and all you will see on your front page is what you think is a non working shortcode.

Always use the textmode editor for html/javascript/shortcodes, simple as that.

Where exactly do you put the shortcodes? I've just spent hours searching through the docs, looking through youtube and this forum but can't find any info about where to put the short codes.  Can anyone point me to a resource?

Thanks!

You can put shortcodes anywhere you like, be it in a post, page, text widget, textbox, mediabox etc...

We're often working with ACF (https://www.advancedcustomfields.com/) that's great for user experience in the backend, 'cause we don't want out clients to be in the editor to much.
So we want to be able to use shortcodes in the editor fields, regardless of section, THIS WOULD BE SO GREAT. Is there a way to fix this, it should open up som much more functionality.
In ACF, the shortcode is for example:
[acf field="field_name"] ...for example, I want to att field_names value to display in a section, i understand I can make it in embed and so, but I want it in titles and options, the whole range.
I know I can build my own sections, that we've done, but it's not very effective, and thats what PL5 is about.
Any ideas on this, can Pagelines take this in the core? I guessing there are more than just ACF out there who can use this.

I have to admit to being baffled.
I'm trying to embed a video (from my WP media library) within a WP post using the videobox section shortcode.
The shortcode section popup only allows two items to be configured - the section type, in this case videobox - and a unique id. There's no URL or other parameters such as autoplay or loop which are available within the Pagelines editor.
Whatever I put in the unique ID makes no difference to what is shown which seems to be a default video with stars or white noise on a black background.
I assume I need to define this ID somewhere else, or maybe WP has done it for me?
      HELP!

PS This is the page source generated when a shortcode is added within the WP post editor
      <!-- VideoBox | Section --> <section id="videobox_1675853156" class="pl-sn pl-col-sm-12 pl-col-sm-offset-0 pl-sn-videobox" data-object="PL_VideoBox" data-clone="1675853156" data-level="0"><div class="pl-sn-wrap"><div class="pl-sn-pad fix" data-bind="pledit: true" > <div class="video-highlight"><h3 class="video-title" data-bind="pltext: vb_title"></h3></div> <div class="pl-video-box" data-bind="plcallback: { vb_autoplay: vb_autoplay(), vb_loop: vb_loop(), vb_controls: vb_controls(), vb_video: vb_video()}" data-callback="videobox"> <video id="280414138" autoplay loop > <source src="https://www.handinhandmanchester.org.uk/wp-content/plugins/pl-section-videobox/default.mp4?r=280414138" type="video/mp4" /> No browser html5 video. </video> <script> jQuery('#280414138')[0].load(); </script> </div> </div></div></section> </div>
If I add a videobox section using the Pagelines page editor the page source generated includes my video:
      <!-- VideoBox | Section --> <section id="videobox_udvu4uz" class="pl-sn pl-col-sm-12 pl-col-sm-offset-0 pl-sn-videobox" data-object="PL_VideoBox" data-clone="udvu4uz" data-level="0"><div class="pl-sn-wrap"><div class="pl-sn-pad fix" data-bind="pledit: true" > <div class="video-highlight"><h3 class="video-title" data-bind="pltext: vb_title"></h3></div> <div class="pl-video-box" data-bind="plcallback: { vb_autoplay: vb_autoplay(), vb_loop: vb_loop(), vb_controls: vb_controls(), vb_video: vb_video()}" data-callback="videobox"> <video id="429558737" autoplay loop > <source src="https://www.handinhandmanchester.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/HIHWelcome.mp4?r=429558737" type="video/mp4" /> No browser html5 video. </video> <script> jQuery('#429558737')[0].load(); </script> </div> </div></div></section>

On my site www.anewbeginning.com the "toggle" function mysteriously stopped working.  I have tried all browsers, tried disabling plugins, removing all the relevant CSS but still cant understand why it isn't working.
The toggle is placed on this page: http://anewbeginning.com/?page_id=15965 and http://anewbeginning.com/?page_id=10779 but it does not display.
On my other Platform5 websites, that exact code works fine: see here http://4aa.d11.myftpupload.com/?page_id=123
Code is the same. Please help, thank you!

      Hello,
I am having a problem with shortcode not working properly with the PL5 theme. I have been trying to insert shortcode for a specific plugin (Map List Pro) and it has worked when I am using DMS but not with PL5. When I insert the shortcode into the page content then none of the content (text, images, or map) will load on that page. Thinking that maybe a widget or straight HTML code would work better made me try inserting the shortcode into a widget (didn't work) as well as an embed section within PL5. The embed section worked in that I can look at the code and see that the map is there but nothing is actually displaying on the page.
I am also unable to edit the embed code section (added through PL shortcode into the content of the page) once I have put in the Map List Pro shortcode. Any thought as to a workaround or if the codes are somehow interfering with one another? You can see the page (and gap where the map is supposed to be loading) here: http://new.fingerlakesdistilling.com/where-to-buy
Thanks so much for any insight you are able to provide!
