media box padding/height issue

Recommended Posts

nadielp

HI Everyone,

I seem to be stuck with about 15px above an below an image in a media box. Padding set to zero code added looks like this media.pl-section-pad {

padding: 0px 0;
}

Code inspection gives me this bit: div.pl-section-pad.fix 968px x 106px
and my image gives me: div.the-media.fitvids.pl-centered.center.hentry 968px x 76px...

I need the section around the image to be as close to 76px as possible.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Thanks again GetMeWebDesign!

Question, how can I learn to identify these section names from the inspection tool? I either am not seeing it or it is not revealing itself. I am fairly new to web design but I have a long relationship with IT and working with scripts and basic code. I feel pretty disadvantaged and I am actively learning CSS but I am not seeing these things...I would truly be grateful for a little insight from you.

Best, nadielp.

better to use

#mediaboxui27s8  .pl-section-pad {
  padding: 0;
}

The answer to many issues can be found by searching in the forum before posting as someone else  may very well have had the same problem before you have.  Also, reading the documentation can help you gain a good understanding of how everything works.

Not sure I can teach you anything (self-taught and still learning), but you will always find the section id just below comments like these:

<!-- MediaBox | Section Template -->
<!-- Canvas Area | Section Template -->

From there it is just a case of identifying where you need to make the CSS change you require (or add CSS), and for that I normally follow the hierarchy down, assuming I dont know where I need to make the change. You will get the hang of it.

You can see I haven't quite with Martin's answer ;)

I hear you GetMe WebDesign....I guess I was generally inquiring about that...I just hate feeling the sharp pain of not knowing things.

i tried to make a 'simple' diagram http://screencast.com/t/7qL7kDpmNW

basically to get started with understanding of CSS and inspecting your browser, try Firebug for Firefox or the lite version - Firebug Lite for chrome.

look at th diagram and remember the classes and ID's (in yellow) and learn the difference. Classes are not Unique ID's are. Multiple classes can be used on multiple elements

Thanks Martin, I appreciate the diagram. I use Firebug Lite in Chrome...I am still having trouble picking out the correct identity of the things I wish to change....It was helpful to get input on this. I did learn from it.

      Hi
      I have a map here http://www.iloveoffset.com/maps/
      I want to add several pointer locations to the map, but when I do they do not appear.
      On this map there are 2 pointer locations and as you can there is only one visible.
      Earlier today I added 7 and could only see 4 so there is something odd going on.
      My theme is up to date

      Hello,
      I've been having trouble unlocking the template section for past couple of weeks. When I try clicking nothing happens.
      I've deleted my custom css and removed plugins. Im down to having only the following plugins:
      Akismet
      Contact Form 7
      DMS Professional Tools
      Pagelines Updater
      WooCommerce
      It was working fine before i have no idea what's going on with it.

      My DMS 2 site http://www.heart-stone.com/ will not save any new custom css... I can still edit templates and publish those but any custom css that I enter never saves.
      All WP files, themes, and plugins are up to date.
      Any thought about what might be causing this?

      Is there a way to edit the custom CSS via FTP? I know I can edit the custom code in the Chrome editor but is there a file path I can use to find and edit the CSS directly from our FTP?
      Thanks in advance for the help!

      Using navbar section with correctly configured WP menu to display main navigation at https://elenaangel.com.
      All fine in desktop viewport. Menu displays twice in hamburger mode. How to fix this please?
