Templates Help Please!

Recommended Posts

Hi - I need some help understanding how the templates work.

This is what I did:

I made a page using the feature template.  i saved the configurations as Feature.  I also saved a new template called Home Template - which the page was using. (ie.  it says Home Template at the top of the DMS Editor)

Then, I made a new page and used the Feature Template.  I did all my work. Saved the configuration as the Feature template again. AND created a new template called social template.  I confirmed that the page was using the social template.

Then I made a third page.  used the Feature template to create it and saved it as it's own template called Campaign Template.

Sounds good right! EXCEPT..  all of the content that i put into the Campaign page (which is saved on the Campaign Template) - is now on my home page and my social page.  ALL of it.  And since I am working in boxes - it isn't saved anywhere.

What am i doing wrong?  I want to make a template.  use it's settings. enter new content. and not have that content show up on another page.  Weirder still.  All the pages that now have the wrong content still have their correct template names.  How do I keep the content in the place where i want it.

I am using a brand new install.   This is because DSM screwed up so much on the first version of my site, that i decided to trash it and start again.

could you create an admin logon for your site and send the credentials to hello at PageLines dot com and we will log on ad take a look for you

The answer to many issues can be found by searching in the forum before posting as someone else  may very well have had the same problem before you have.  Also, reading the documentation can help you gain a good understanding of how everything works.

+1 this has happened to me time and time again, not just using Templates but also using the newer 'section save' option too. I just haven't had time to report it as I'm having to find work arounds to keep a few clients happy. So far I've revered to duplicating sections manually and not using templates or saved sections, not ideal...

However saying that I've seen a massive improvement in the way 'saved sections' are deployed and identified in DMS 2.0 (up from 1) so it's looking promising but things are still too unstable (imho) to use in production. I tried to save a small canvas section to use as a footer for other sections and the default content just kept jumping about before it all finally just deleted itself!

This was finally my only solution as well.  i wont even use the clone function. (this would explain how an image from a media box on the top of page 5 would jump to a media box on the bottom of page 3.  the media box at the bottom of page 3 was cloned from the media box at the top of page 3).   I just make all the changes manually and make sure that all the templates are unlinked before i enter any content.  I can't even tell you how many times i have had to retype all of the content.

It would be great if there was some way that the content of media that is entered directly on the front end could be saved and accessed and even show revisions.    It is WAYYYYY too scary that text in text boxes and iboxes can just POOOF go away - and if you havent saved a screen shot of your page - buh-bye!

My site is finally stable now.  after redoing it completely.   And sadly, no one at pagelines has really come up with a solution.

Tell me about it, I totally understand that this system is way cool but seriously I now have passages from my clients content permanently embedded in my skull due to rework time. I really hope they either disable the cloning until it's stable or get it nailed asap. I'm beginning to hesitate when I offer DMS as a platform to clients now...

Has this been resolved elsewhere in the forum? I'm having issues with templates as well on our architecture firm site.  I have five different templates, each represents a building type. If I change one building type template (say commercial buildings template), all the other building type templates are revised with the changes made to the commercial buildings template. I was almost finished the site and now it seems as though I have to back track which would be tolerable, however, there doesn't seem to be a fix for this. Please tell me there is a fix or that since DMS2 I am using it incorrectly.

my recommendation to you ssgross66 is this. I cannot confirm that this is an official fix, but it did seem to end the madness for me.

Before you go back and redo all your pages.  Take SCREEN SHOTS OF EVERYTHING!

Go to each page and unlink all the templates.

Then... try to remember if you cloned any of the sections within a page that you later saved to a template.  These clones seem to be vulnerable as well. Since I couldnt remember what i cloned and what i didnt, I recreated each text box, ibox, media box etc by pulling a new section into the position where the original one was and then copied and pasted the content into the new one (if it was still there). And then I deleted the old section  Make sure you remember to check the settings for the section, and if you have any custom LESS/CSS that targets a specific section by "id" make sure you replace that id number with the new one you just created.

This is not an elegant solution.  But my site has been stable for 48 hours now.

      Hi
      I have a map here http://www.iloveoffset.com/maps/
I want to add several pointer locations to the map, but when I do they do not appear.
On this map there are 2 pointer locations and as you can there is only one visible.
Earlier today I added 7 and could only see 4 so there is something odd going on.
My theme is up to date

      Hello,
I've been having trouble unlocking the template section for past couple of weeks. When I try clicking nothing happens.
I've deleted my custom css and removed plugins. Im down to having only the following plugins:
      Akismet
      Contact Form 7
      DMS Professional Tools
      Pagelines Updater
      WooCommerce
It was working fine before i have no idea what's going on with it.

My DMS 2 site http://www.heart-stone.com/ will not save any new custom css... I can still edit templates and publish those but any custom css that I enter never saves.
All WP files, themes, and plugins are up to date.
Any thought about what might be causing this?

Is there a way to edit the custom CSS via FTP? I know I can edit the custom code in the Chrome editor but is there a file path I can use to find and edit the CSS directly from our FTP?
Thanks in advance for the help!
