Hi- I have read a few of the forums about custom fields and DMS but just can't find a clear answer. My custom fields are set already in the backend of wordpress. I go to select it and it does not show up on my post(s). how do I add post_meta to the post template? Can somebody help me trouble shoot this?

thanks,

Kim

Hi Kim

The easiest way to add your custom fields without having to add code into the template would be to use a plugin like http://wordpress.org/plugins/simple-fields/, http://www.advancedcustomfields.com/ or types and views - http://wp-types.com/

Kindly search the forum and read the documentation before posting. It will help you resolve many issues.

For CSS help be sure to check out W3Schools first and be sure to download FireBug for FireFox for troubleshooting.

James B I still need some help with this, I'm at a stall. As my developer advised (and I agree) using a whole plugin to simply pull some postmeta into a post is overkill.

if I wanted to add code to get postmeta into a template, what file would I place it in ?

If there is a specific template for non-cpt posts, regardless of category, what is the template name and location ?

My developer also said this:

If they provide a hook for postmeta, I can write a function in functions.php
Hopefully they provide 2 hooks - before 'the_content' and after 'the_content'.

Just in case you need to know I am trying to use this post-meta on posts within category #40 on my site: http://dev.thecosmicpath.com/category/daily-weather

I already have the custom postmeta field just need to pull it to the front.

Please advise and thanks,

Kim

you can add a hook to the page using the Hooker plugin and Actionmap

Full instructions on how to do this are available here http://docs.pagelines.com/advanced/hooks

The answer to many issues can be found by searching in the forum before posting as someone else  may very well have had the same problem before you have.  Also, reading the documentation can help you gain a good understanding of how everything works.
