Templates Not Saving

Recommended Posts

brentdynamics
I am officially pissed off at the DMS system. I have spent several hours creating my frontpage template, including saving the template a second time on the system to only have it be blank when I edited another Template and Saved it as my new Default, when I switched back to my FrontPage Template low and behold it was BLANK!!! My Slider was No where to be found on the template, My Widget Areas where no where to be found on the template As this is a "Brand New Wordpress Install" with a Brand New DMS install, I don't understand why I spend hours creating a custom template to only have PageLInes DMS not Save the Template and have it in the Data Base for me to Recall and Use. I am using the Free Version and I should be able to Create Custom Templates and Use them without having to fork out money for a subscription if it doesn't work in the free what are the chances of it working once I pay for it... site: http://brentdynamics.net/dms/

Hi,

I can and have created numerous custom templates using the free version of DMS without encountering the issue you describe. Can you enable DMS debug mode so we can take a look at your issue.

DMS Toolbar > Settings > Advanced

Also, how did you create your template, where did you add your sections and what sections did you use ?

Okay so I have enabled Debug, http://brentdynamics.net/dms/?pldebug=1

I have also noticed that on the top WordPress Toolbar that on the far right after Edit Page it says "Template None" and when I click on it only loads template selection panel in DMS

When I created my template I started with a Pre-Built one and just Modified it to my linking then Saved it as  New Template.

I have not Added any sections really to the Templates I may have removed unused sections.

I am truly Stumped, I have even looked in the Error Logs for the Server and there is nothing

So many bugs still with DMS, have had this issue numerous times too mate, no real fix other than a reinstall of the framework until it happens again lol

Many thanks

brentdynamics - Can you contact our helpdesk and provide them with the following please:

A link to this topic so they know which issue you're referring too and so they can leave a moderator note.

You admin username and password, so we can take a closer look, as you debug information isn't showing anything that could cause this issue.

bloom1creative - Can you do the same please, providing the above info and I will take a closer look.

Hi there,

I've logged in (other moderators's check notes at top for login details). Templates seem to be working ok.

To test I've set up another template called pagelines test and put in a sidebar, quickslider and hero unit and saved. Then loaded another template you had setup already 'landing page'. That loaded fine, saved. Then I went back to the template I created and loaded that, that switched the page back to template I just created etc.

You are loading the templates through the DMS control panel and not via the edit page option? The page template loader option in the edit page area doesn't work, this is a known issue and has been reported.

I've screencasted the test, see - http://screencast.com/t/TQrzZQIz4

Kindly search the forum and read the documentation before posting. It will help you resolve many issues.

For CSS help be sure to check out W3Schools first and be sure to download FireBug for FireFox for troubleshooting.

So, you are basically telling me I can create multiple templates but only have one active globally. What is the ETA of fixing the Template Selection Option so that I can use different templates based on Page/Area of the Site?

Then I would also like to point out that there is an issue with the REV Slider. as I should be able to add it to a single template and not have it show up on every template if you can Please look into that as well that would be great.

Activating a template globally means just that, it is the default template when you create a new page. You can't have more than one global template, how would that work ? You can't have multiple templates active on one template.

The way it works is this:

The header area of your site is a global template, meaning that any sections or content you add here, will be visible throughout your site, as its a global template area.

The same can be said about your footer area, as this too is a global template area, meaning sections/content added here will be visible throughout your site.

The reason as to why your RevSlider is visible on all pages is due to the fact that its been placed in the header area of your site, which I explained above.

Wow, that is not how I envisioned how this system would work I would expect that I can create a template Modify header, footer  and main content area, save that as a template in the system then use that template, as as static for a select page or pages, and have a global template for stuff like by blog, and have a template for landing pages, as well possibly have a front page that is different as well,

Most themes and Frameworks for Wordpress or any other CMS for that matter, usually have a global Header, Footer and sometimes a global sidebar, this isn't specific to DMS.

However, I have voiced this problem to our tracker on your behalf.
