Flipper Post Excerpt

How do I get Flipper to display excerpt?

I read in another thread that I need to add a bit of code in order to make that happen.

I tried to add it in HOOK but it didn't seem to work. Can someone please help me with a step by step?

Thanks so much.

Hi,

To add the excerpt to the Flipper section see this topic - http://forum.pagelines.com/topic/31047-flipper-adding-excerpt-below-the-image/

Where did you add the hook ? As you should be adding it to your child themes or customize plugins functions.php file (not the DMS file).

Hi Danny,

I've seen that page you shared w/ me before and I've yet to be able to make it work.

Here is where I went ----> pageline ---> hook ---> pageline_insidebottom_flipper

and here is the code

add_filter( 'pl_flipper_meta', 'the_excerpt', 'flipper_excerpt');
function flipper_excerpt ($more) {
        return '&hellip; <a href="'.get_permalink().'" rel="nofollow">[Continue Reading]</a>';
}

What appears the code when I refresh the page and not the excerpt.

If that is not the place where I need to add the code, then please let me know where. Or if there is something else I am not doing right. Like I said, still trying to master the learning curve on this. Thanks!

Hi there, that code snippet needs to be added to the base theme or customize plugins functions.php file. You can't add a filter into the PageLines hooker plugin unfortunately.

Download the base theme if you're not using it already -

Then install andactivate, go to Appearance>editor and from the list on the right make sure you're in the base theme functions.php. Add you code in the filters section and save.

James & Danny,

Thanks for the reply....please see screen shot at this link and tell me what I am doing wrong. I followed through w/ the base theme and add code to the functions php. I am uncertain where to add the code and tried it at several places. None of which worked.

Thanks for you help. Sorry for being so lame here.

I mentioned in my post above, the code snippet needs to be added to your child theme or customize plugins functions.php file and not the DMS functions.php file.

Editing core files is not recommended nor do we provide support for users who have done so.

Hello Danny & James.

I really appreciate you guys help. Lets pretend that I don't know WTF I am doing and walk me through step by step. Would that be possible?

I did what James had suggested, added the code to the base theme and it did nothing. So I've deleted it and restored it the way it was before the addition.

If one of you could be so kind to walk me through this as if I am a 5 yr old - first you do this then that then I could banging my head against the wall and risk breaking this site.

Thanks so much.

Hi there,

Ok try this method for me instead. First place the flipper section live on the site and keep it open in a new page so you can switch back to it etc.

Install the customize plugin from here and activate the plugin.

Go to plugin > editor and from the drop down on the right hand side, select pagelines customize.

http://screencast.com/t/VomTinGTv6

Once the page refreshes you'll see all the files inside PageLines customize plugin. Click on the functions.php

http://screencast.com/t/EfzZWqLtN

Once the page has reloaded you'll be able to paste your code into the text field for the functions.php - http://screencast.com/t/Hxal1bLFAnCl then click update file at the bottom of the page.

Go back and check your flipper section/refresh page and you'll see the excerpt under the flipper image - http://screencast.com/t/3PMhNiL0uM

Let us know how you get on.

Thank you so much. Its working now. www.spytravelogue.com.

I just have another question, is there a way to hide all the social share from the excerpt?!

Thank you so much for walking me through it step by step.

Hi Charlie

You're welcome, I'm glad you've got it up and running. Try using the following css to hide the share in the flipper excerpt

.flipper-meta .addtoany_share_save_container {
    display: none;
}

Kindly search the forum and read the documentation before posting. It will help you resolve many issues.

That last piece of code is css, it needs to go into the css/less panel not the functions.php like the code we added before.

Eg, the code below needs to go in this panel http://screencast.com/t/fUWIP4fW

.flipper-meta .addtoany_share_save_container {
    display: none;
}
