Creating an Online Store in Page Lines

Recommended Posts

Is it possible to create (with out the upgrade) an online store on my website? I was going to use something like Society 6 but read that they keep a % of the commissions and they're allowed to keep your work as long as possible. Ideally I would not like to do that.

I am a graphic designer / illustrator and I would like to sell prints from my website.

If this is possible, what are steps I can take to make this happen?

Any help and advice is appreciated. I'm currently doing my own research on the matter and I thought this place would be good to ask as well seeing as I've created my entire website through pagelines.

Thanks for your time!

Hi,

DMS is for Wordpress which has literally thousands of plugins, these plugins usually add amongst other things extra functionality to Wordpress. Some plugins allow you to have a setup a shop on your website.

The most commonly used plugins for Wordpress online shops are the following:

WooCommerce - http://www.woothemes.com/woocommerce/

JigoShop - http://jigoshop.com/

EDD - https://easydigitaldownloads.com/

There are more that you can find by searching the Wordpress plugin repository - http://wordpress.org/plugins/

Please bear in mind that all these products are third party extensions for Wordpress. Therefore, we are unable to provide any assistance, you will need to contact the products support and read their documentation.

Please search our forums, before posting!

Because you mentioned you want to sell prints, you could sign up for SmugMug (coupon code: vGSrlGb7FH6Cs). They can host your site, print your stuff, and even withhold taxes if you tell them the rate to collect. If you already have your own print shop, you could setup nearly the same with WP, DMS, and an ecommerce plugin like the ones mentioned. Just offering another angle to consider. I believe Behance and places like that allow you to sell stuff too, but I'm not sure if it's prints.

Excellent, thank you for the response Danny! This is very helpful

This great info too, thanks for the response Clifford! Behance is another option I can look further into. I just have a few questions if you don't mind:

1. What did you mean by "withhold taxes if you tell them the rate to collect"? Is this a good thing?

2. What does "WP" "DMS" mean?

It's basically a pre-setup ecommerce solution. WP = WordPress. DMS = PageLines theme

Maybe I'm missing something that's staring me in the face, but I can't always find the right prefix for store products (e.g. Floating Icons / Social and Hooker).

And this particular subforum does not offer the option to select a prefix but the last time I posted here, my post was automatically (and incorrectly) prefixed with Viewer.

Perhaps the subforums can be updated to reflect current product status?

I need to set up a wholesale section and I want to design a shop like your DMS demo store but am not sure how it was done. Can you tell me how to set up the shop and individual product pages and if I need any other plugins or components.

      Thanks,
      Anne-Marie

      Website URL: http://www.marielfrias.com
Framework Version: PageLines DMS Developer 2.1.5
      WordPress Version: 3.9.2
      Plugins in Use: WooCommerce
      Server/Host: http://www.simohost.com
Details: It says DMS2 supports WooCommerce, but when I try to use it the plugin just breaks the DMS2 framework, looks like DMS2 does not support any ecommerce plugin, I have contacted a "third party member" Ellen Moore which she has created some solutions for past Pagelines WooCommerce builds and she says she is working on an update for the plugin. My client is waiting for the page to be finished and I cannot continue. Botton line is that I need to create a store. Please offer a solution.

Hi, I just signed up with Pagelines a few months ago, and one of the things that has always struck me as odd is how hard it is to get to the full DMS marketplace. If I login to the main site, and click on "Shop," I'm shown some of the themes, sections, etc, but not the full inventory, or so it seems.

I know there have been a few times in the past I've managed to find the marketplace where users can sell their sections, etc, but it's always been challenging. Today I couldn't even find it through Google -- maybe it doesn't exist anymore?

If you've been using DMS for a while you've probably said at some point, "I wish DMS did ...." and then tried to figure out how to do it with a general WordPress plugin or moved on to something else entirely.

Well, our store developers are ALWAYS on the lookout for your feedback.  They invest time and energy to create PageLines specific sections and plugins often based on their own use and needs.  Well, I'd like to open it up to our forum users to let them know what you would like to see in PageLines.

If you've ever said "I wish DMS did xyz", now is your chance to influence the projects store developers are working on with your comments in this forum thread.

I'm looking forward to hearing your ideas!

      James.
