Section Count and Section Issues - Irritation

DMS Team -

First let me say.   I find the support of Danny, James and community members very valuable in building and customizing sites.  I'm happy the DMS membership comes with that type of support (although other frameworks/themes come with similar support with no monthly fee, I find the DMS community better).  I could spend time comparing DMS to other themes that include various sliders that can be visually customized, additions to visual editor and such but I won't.  I won't because I think DMS is a really great product for Designers, Coders, and the third party Developers have put out some nice products.  DMS let's you create fresh, clean looking designs and using extensions avoids cookie cutter appearances (devs it would be nice to have more menu layouts).

Now for the irritation part.  Many of us DMS users are attracted to DMS because we are designers with varying degrees of coding skills from beginners to advanced.  We are building everything from personal sites to client sites and integrating WooCommerce.  We expect to get what we are paying for and for it to be delivered in the way that was represented to us.

We are getting the service/support we paid for but not the product.  There are yet to be 40 BUILT IN (or at least free through the Extension store) Drag & Drop sections available for DMS users.  The PostPins section doesn't work for many users/sites it's pulling content erratically or duplicating content on several of the DMS sites I have visited.  Two great components for DMS the FullTextBox and FullMediaBox have to be discovered via the forums and aren't available in the extensions area.  Yes, I know you can download Nick's Base Theme (awesome by the way), place the Viewer Theme sections into Nick's Base Theme and then load his theme as a DMS child theme.   However, that's not really what we pay for, we pay for the advertised product to work in the way it was advertised.

Let's say you buy an iPhone...GREAT.   BUT then it doesn't come with a charger so you need to go buy one of those from Radio Shack.  Oh wait, you can only plug the charger into the bottom outlet (we didn't include plugging into the top outlet as basic feature).  Increase call volume...you will be able to do that by going to this github address and downloading a volume control app.  Good grief....but really...right now that's seems to be where DMS is.  Clearly, I'm being a bit overly dramatic here and I know DMS got off to a rocky start but we are now months past launch and it would be nice to be getting what we pay for.

My support question.  When will the DMS sections all be either built into DMS or loaded individually into the store?  When will the PostPins issue be resolved?  I believe some of these have already been submitted to the developer but would like a timeline on resolution.  If it's going to be months before we can implement reliably functioning sites for clients then maybe DMS isn't the right tool for some of us.

HI,

First and foremost, there is no need to mention you appreciate the support from me, as I already know I am awesome! ;)

As I mentioned in your topic regarding PostPins, I am unable to recreate your issue where the PostPins is displaying duplicate content, another user has reported the same issue, but he has also failed to provide exact steps on how to reproduce it.

As soon as I can recreate the issue, I will report it and set it to high priority, I can not however, report an issue to our tracker, that I am unable to recreate, as this is just a waste of our developers time. They need in a simple list of steps to recreate it, so they can fix it. They can not fix an issue, that they can not reproduce. If I was to report this as an issue, the first thing one of our devs will say in his reply is, "how do I recreate it", if I were to say "I have no idea, I can't actually do it myself, but two users have reported the same thing on the forums", our devs will simply say pilot error and close the report.

In regards to the 40 built-in sections, I have already informed you about this on another topic too ? Not sure why you have created a rant-ish thread. I can't find the topic myself now, but when DMS launched there were over 40 sections I think, including the Legacy sections via the plugin. These are now deprecated, due to changes in the core code i.e. they will no longer work.

The FullBox and Full MediaBox sections haven't been created by any PageLines staff member, they were recreated by E.T.Cook who is a store dev after ET see my reported issue in our tracker regarding a Full Width Textbox so that users who wanted to use plugins such as LayerSlider and RevSlider, could have a full width slider using the shortcode.

So unless E.T.Cook adds these to the store, they will remain in the both the forum (can't find the topic) and on GitHub via the tracker - https://github.com/pagelines/DMS/issues/537

Please search our forums, before posting!

@Danny- Recreating the Post Pins issue for me.  Just install it and try it, I don't have to do anything special to get it not to work.  Are you running DMS from a local server?  If so I'd install it on something like hostgator or other vendor WPEnigine and see what happens, I'd imagine that's what most of your users are doing.   I have four test posts, am having it load 4 posts at a time.  That's it, not sure what more I can tell you.   I was looking through the "show us your DMS site" forum...checking out what others have done and noticed that the problem is occuring on http://hoffmangraphics.com/news/  .

As far as sections go.  Informing users that there were 40 sections with the legacy sections plugin but that they no longer work, does not fix the discrepancy between what users signed up expecting and paying for and what they are receiving.

Maybe links to Fullbox, Full MediaBox and Nicks Child Theme  should all be included as links on the Extensions page, not as store items but as a hey here are these incredibly useful tools.  This would keep current users and future users from having to dig to try and find those resources.  As you mention, you couldn't find the topic.

Pagelines need to keep it's subscribes as it's top priority!  40 drag&drop sections are still being advertised as part of the built in package and it's simply not true. Proper course of action for a company as I see it...get 40 working sections included or change your marketing on Pagelines site.  If you change the home page marketing then how are you going to compensate the users that have been paying for the 40 sections?  At the very least a disclaimer is necessary.

DMS is good. And super flexible....I'm excited to see it evolve.
