Adding encrypted email code

Recommended Posts

sheilahoff

For years I've always used an encrypted email code to mask email addresses from spambots. It works on all my other sites but I cannot get it to work in PL. PL automatically converts the code to the actual email address! I've tried using the PL Raw shortcodes to protect the code however then the shortcodes actually display on the page. Is there a work around for this?

You can generate your own code and try it in both PL and a non-PL site and see how it's supposed to work and how it doesn't work.

This is where I generate the code: http://www.privacypolicyonline.com/email-encryption/

This is what the code looks like when added to the html tag:

<a href="&#109;&#97;&#105;&#108;&#116;&#111;:&#115;&#117;&#115;&#97;&#110;&#64;&#115;&#117;&#115;&#97;&#110;&#104;&#111;&#119;&#108;&#101;&#116;&#116;&#46;&#99;&#111;&#109;">&#69;&#109;&#97;&#105;&#108; &#83;&#117;&#115;&#97;&#110;</a>

Thanks.

Hi,

All HTML code should be used inside the MedaiBox section. I have just created an HTML encryption, then added that code to the Mediabox and it worked as intended.

Thanks for checking Danny. But that is not always possible. On this PL site http://www.susanhowlett.com, the email is in the footer and uses a text box in a widget area AND is in the body content on the Contact page as well. As I said, it works on my pre-PL sites just fine, ANYWHERE! I can't add a media box for one part of the footer or for the content of the Contact page. Isn't there some magic code to wrap it in so it works as it should in place?

OK, you have me confused. Where on DMS are you adding the code ?

In a TextBox, Text Widget or the page content ?

Also what do you mean by pre-PL site ?

Pre-PL just means NON-PL sites this works.

So on this NON-PL site http://hoffmangraphics.com you can see my email is encrypted. That is added in the HTML view of the page content.  Attached is a screen capture. When I do that very same thing in a PL site it converts the code to the email address rather than remaining encrypted.

I've ALSO used it in a text box in a widget as shown in the second screen capture. That is a sample at the footer on this site: http://www.susanhowlett.com. You can see in the capture that the code is there, yet on the footer the actual email displays in the code. That is NOT how it should work. If you look at the selected source code on the first example where it's working correctly and remains encrypted.

Make sense now?

PS: I could not attach files so uploaded to my server and am linking to them.

It's encrypted in both the footer and in the text just above my signature on that page.

Well I am getting the same effect as that on both a Textwidget and in the Page Content area.

The site where you say its not working, for me it is doing the same thing as the site you that isn't a PL site - http://susanhowlett.com/

So I am not sure what this is outcome is supposed to me, as there both the same.

The susanhowlett site is the PL site and when you use Inspect Elements on the email you do NOT see the encrypted email which you DO see when you do that on the hoffmangraphics site as shown here. They both look "normal" when just viewing the page.

I have just added the same code to Twenty Thirteen and the same thing happens, therefore this isn't a DMS/PageLines issue, but an issue with the Wordpress. You should probably follow the instructions on this article - http://codex.wordpress.org/Protection_From_Harvesters

Very interesting. I'll continue to explore. Thanks for the time and for the link with ideas. It's puzzling that this works on my old sites but not on any new ones. A bit annoying. Appreciate your time and help.
