DMS Multiple Authors Shortcode

Recommended Posts

I'm just putting this out there as a nice shortcode to add to the DMS metabar shortcodes list, [show_authors] allows you to list multiple author names in the Metabar Mode (default) in the blog roll and post meta areas.  I remembered I used it in Framework and sure enough it still works in DMS.

The shortcode does not work with Author Avatar Mode.  Only the first author gets their face displayed.  Is there any chance Author Avatar Mode could allow for two?  Just curious.

Thanks,

Jerrad

Hi there,

Nice idea, I'll this in to the ideas and feedback forum for the developers to review.

Kindly search the forum and read the documentation before posting. It will help you resolve many issues.

For CSS help be sure to check out W3Schools first and be sure to download FireBug for FireFox for troubleshooting.

Thanks James.

I forgot to mention that in order to have multiple authors on posts, you need a plugin to make it work.  I use the Co-Authors Plus plugin that is free on Wordpress.org.  http://wordpress.org/plugins/co-authors-plus/  I think there have been other posts on the Pagelines forums where other users are using this plugin too.

I added this myself over a year ago. Uses Co Authors. Should work in author avatar mode as it's just a shortcode, but I think I remember seeing a bug that Author Avatar Meta is completely hosed right now.

Hi evscicats - That's a great idea and just so you're aware, the Author Avatar Mode is not completely hosed, there is, however, a bug that has been brought to the attention of the developers so keep an eye on that as well. https://github.com/pagelines/DMS/issues/409. Thanks again for your suggestion.

Have you searched the forums yet or checked out the DMS user docs?

"That's a great idea and just so you're aware, the Author Avatar Mode is not completely hosed"

The meta doesn't work completely. In nickonese that terms is called "hosed". If it was one part of it that didn't work, that'd be different.

Besides this is irrelevant. It doesn't work right now.  There's a logged GH issue. And we move on.

THANK YOU! That shortcode did the trick for me in the meta bar BUT I still need help getting the second author displayed at the bottom. I did try the author avatar mode which only displays one author in the sidebar. Nice looking. I never knew what that option did. BUT...what I really need to make that happen is to have both authors' avatar and bio display at the bottom of the post where I've added a Post Author section. In fact I'd be happy to get both authors' avatars displayed in EITHER mode. Though my preference is to get them both at the bottom so they can have their bios with their avatars.

It appears the instructions here might tell a coder how to do that but I'm more a designer. If someone can tell me which file to put what code in I'm comfortable doing that in my child theme. Has anyone figured this out yet? I sure hope so. Client REALLY needs it.

Thanks.

Sheila

Hi sheilahoff,

Just in case, did you try this free DMS plugin/section "Authors" by beardedavenger ?

You just have to add the authors' IDs (from 1 to 10 co-authors) and the section retrieves and displays their avatar & meta (from your users' WP admin/backend: core users' WP meta & additional section meta).

Thanks @Erwin. I didn't know about that plugin. I've downloaded and will try it out. It looks like it's meant for creating a page of authors. I need them at the bottom of each post. And since this is for a client it would certainly be preferable to have this automated and not need to manually add author IDs which will be a bit much. It actually might or might not even work to have unique author settings by post. It seems quite cumbersome. But very close. If this is already possible, it seems a coder would be able to tweak this to do the normal and most desirable automated adding of authors by post.

We're often working with ACF (https://www.advancedcustomfields.com/) that's great for user experience in the backend, 'cause we don't want out clients to be in the editor to much.
So we want to be able to use shortcodes in the editor fields, regardless of section, THIS WOULD BE SO GREAT. Is there a way to fix this, it should open up som much more functionality.
In ACF, the shortcode is for example:
[acf field="field_name"] ...for example, I want to att field_names value to display in a section, i understand I can make it in embed and so, but I want it in titles and options, the whole range.
I know I can build my own sections, that we've done, but it's not very effective, and thats what PL5 is about.
Any ideas on this, can Pagelines take this in the core? I guessing there are more than just ACF out there who can use this.

      Hi everyone,
Flywheel have reported errors on my clients site 'www.racewaredirect.co.uk' and it's not loading. Can someone please provide some information on how to fix this? The site has never experienced these issues before.
      Thanks,

      Hi there,
I've got an issue with 3 websites built with DMS since I migrated them from http to https that I need help with please.
When any changes are made - e.g. new posts added or existing posts amended - certain sections of the live site seem to break e.g. image headers hang and don't load (b/g on canvas section), sliders hang and don't load (Revslider), flipper section doesn't load.
Logging in and then clicking 'Edit the site using DMS' seems to fix the problem. Often if I try to open up another browser window to edit the site / re publish I'm unable to as the page wont load / hangs while trying to load.
Any ideas how to fix this? On a couple of the sites I've installed a caching plugin as I thought it might be a loading speed issue but it's still happening.
Website URL's can be provided privately.
      Many thanks in advance.

      Hi
      I found this topic
which talks about a similar issue I am having, but a little different. Hope someone can help me out.
Best way to see the problem is to view http://cassclayton.com/ on Safari (Mac) compared to Firefox or Chrome. You will see the banner just under the fixed menubar has a gap between the menubar and top of the banner. Looking at Inspector, I found:
      <div class="fixed-top-pusher" style="height: 62px;"></div>
      <script> jQuery('.fixed-top-pusher').height( jQuery('.pl-fixed-top').height() ) </script>
and indeed it seems the jquery is not always working consistently. For instance, if you simply refresh the page in Safari, it will loose the gap and all looks fine, so is it a browser cache issue that is interacting with the jquery? I do have W3 Total Cache installed. There must be a way to tell the code to make sure jquery is up and running and available to do it's majic?
And perhaps there is just a better way to do this banner? Originally I tried several DMS sections and used the banner image as background, etc... Kept running into problems with resizing and the left/right parts of the image were getting chopped off. It is important the whole image show, so currently I just use a NextBox section with this code:
      <img src="[pl_site_url]/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/CassClayton-blues-tribute-banner.jpg" width="100%" />
and it looks the way it should. Is there a better way to place a banner graphic under a fixed navbar and make sure the whole banner graphic displays regardless of screensize?

      Hello There,
So i want to use platform 5 and DMS sections on a single page, i am using a child theme with pinspro as my main theme and i activated platform 5, the only problem am having so far is the fixed option, my navbars are not aligning to their default size, and it will be great if platform 5 header and footer section will function, has anyone used this option, how can i make the best use of platform 5 and DMS on a site
      Cheers
