Extra space above text box

Recommended Posts

gokayak1

I am adding a shortcode for a slider to a text box.  The slider is displaying properly but there is a chunk of extra space above the slider.

I believe the space is created by the "optional" Title area.  How do i get rid of the space and is it created by the empty title area?

I have tried to use the media box to no avail.

The slider displays properly if I put it in post loop.

Thanks

Alan

Hi gokayak1 - Do you have a space (meaning a return) or a   in the text box before you entered the code? I believe that's the culprit!

Have you searched the forums yet or checked out the DMS user docs?

The only thing that is in there is

[layerslider id="1"]

I removed it and added "test" as text and the spacing was fine.  I then put back the shortcode and the spacing returns.

Alan,

I suspect there may be two possibilities.  The title isn't one of them. If the title field in any section is blank, it should be hidden.  So, using a tool like Chrome's Inspection or Firebug for Firefox, look at your site with the shortcode in place. I think you'll find that the shortcode is adding a margin or padding.

The other possibility is that a min-height setting is in place for the textbox or the section containing it. You should see that with either of the same inspection tools.  However, even if this were the case,  it would likely be no more than 200px high, and any slider would likely be higher.

The fact that it occurs with the shortcode indicates that the plugin is applying some unique CSS to cause it.  Were it actually any element/section or container in DMS, then that extra space would appear even without the slider.

Thanks Rob.  I think you are right about it being from the plugin side. I was trying to find a Firebug for Chrome and haven't been able to.

In the mean time, Firebug shows the space being held by a <p> and div.hentry.  I can't figure what to modify so I am going to try and contact the developer.

There's no Firebug for Chrome, only for Firefox.  http://www.getfirebug.com

Chrome's tools are built into the browser. Here's how to use that: http://support.goodlayers.com/how-to-use-google-chrome-inspect-element-tool/

Here's the official Inspect Tool site: https://developers.google.com/chrome-developer-tools/
