Nextgen Gallery problem with section widgets and Banners

Recommended Posts

andreas_hald

I've tried contacting almost everybody and no one seem to have a solution. They all however encourage me to ask Pagelines Pro if they know what could be causing the problems.

After updating my Nextgen Gallery (to version 2.0.23) it puts thumbnails of all my galleries into my section widget which never hold any pictures from Nextgen. They contain videos from Vimeo with HTML, and besides throwing those thumbnails in, it also deactivates shadowbox in my HTML code (the two videos "The Drop" and "Magt" will not show up in a shadowbox when clicked as they used to).
It's exactly the same thing with Banners, where it throws these thumbnails in and deactivates shadowboxes for my videos I've made with HTML (and just messes up the site with banners). Again, there never has or gonna be pictures or galleries from nextgen in Banners or section widget, but Nextgen has it own life now.

I've tried deactivating plugins to see if there's any conflict, but nothing solves the problem but deactivating Nextgen.

It's a Nextgen problem, but they believe it might be a conflict with Pagelines and encouraged me to ask you.

Since I'm paying to have Pagelines, I really hope there's help to get.

I use Pagelines Pro, Wordpress 3.6.1 and Nextgen 2.0.23.

The problem with banners:

Please keep in mind, that I'm no coder or anything like that and that the website still is under construction.

Hi,

If this error began when you updated Nextgen Gallery, then I recommend you contact their support and inform them of your issue. I fail to see how this is a PageLines issue if there was no such error prior to updating Nextgen?

Also, I have just this moment created two banners, added them to my template and have no such issue with Nextgen gallery.

Therefore, it is most likely an issue caused by the way you have added your media via the Banner Media option or the code used. If you view your site you can see that you have a "> visible.

This tells me that your code isn't valid, therefore, you should check your code. - http://d.pr/i/lqsu

Hi, thanks for your reply.

I've contacted them (off course) and tried all sorts of troubleshooting, and they asked me to check with you, to find out if there could be a conflict.

I had a small issue with the plugin before updating, where it wrote "no image found" in section widgets and banners, but after updating it now does this even weirder thing.

I'm just trying to figure this out - not blaming any.

But I'm close to giving up, I sure can't figure it out.

I'll try check it and see if I can figure it out. It's just weird that it has worked.

I also asked an experienced "Wordpresser"if he could se anything wrong - and he found nothing with my html code.

Thanks again, I appreciate it.

Thank you Danny!

(I couldn’t figure out to paste an image, so I’ve linked them).

This is the code in banner media:

<a href="//player.vimeo.com/video/67472096" rel="shadowbox[album]"><img src="http://andreashald.dk/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/Screen-Shot-2013-06-03-at-00.14.16.png" />.</a>

This is the code I’ve used in section widget (Secondary sidebar, text widget):

<a href="http://player.vimeo.com/video/67472096" rel="shadowbox[album]"><img src="http://andreashald.dk/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/Screen-Shot-2013-06-03-at-00.14.16.png" /></a>

Are you using a plugin to use ShadowBox or using a script ?

Forgive me my lack of knowledge.

I'm using shadowbox JS.

And I found these guidelines on a website (if you need this info):

-----------------------------------------------------

SHADOWBOX HTML codes

Simple image opening from a thumbnail:

<a href="myimage.jpg" rel="shadowbox" title="My Image Title"><img src="myimage.jpg" style="width:200px; height:120px;border:0px;"></a>

Where it says myimage.jpg add the URL to your image

Replace My Image Title with the title you want to give to your image

Adapt width and height for the thumbnail

(Kan slette størrelsen).

Multiple images opening from one image:

<a href="myimage.jpg" rel="shadowbox[albumname]" title="My Image Title"><img src="myimage.jpg" style="width:200px; height:120px;border:0px;"></a>

<a href="myimage2.jpg" rel="shadowbox[albumname]" title="My Image Title 2"></a>

<a href="myimage3.jpg" rel="shadowbox[albumname]" title="My Image Title 3"></a>

Where it says myimage.jpg add the URL to your image

Replace My Image Title with the title you want to give to your image

Adapt width and height for the thumbnail

Replace albumname with the name you want to give to the album or group of images. Of course you can have multiple groups on the same page by giving different group names.

Multiple images opening from an image gallery:

<div style="width:450px; text-alignment:left;">

<a href="myimage.jpg" rel="shadowbox[albumname]" title="My Image Title"><img src="myimage.jpg" style="width:200px; height:120px;border:0px;"></a> <a href="myimage2.jpg" rel="shadowbox[albumname]" title="My Image Title 2"><img src="myimage2.jpg" style="width:200px; height:120px;border:0px;"></a> <a href="myimage3.jpg" rel="shadowbox[albumname]" title="My Image Title 3"><img src="myimage3.jpg" style="width:200px; height:120px;border:0px;"></a>

</div>

Where it says myimage.jpg add the URL to your image

Replace My Image Title with the title you want to give to your image

Adapt width and height for the thumbnail

Replace albumname with the name you want to give to the album or group of images. Of course you can have multiple groups on the same page by giving different group names.

The div was added to give a uniform look to the gallery. Enter the width you want to have thumbnails displaying in and change left to center if you want.

Movie:

<a href="mymovie.extension" rel="shadowbox;height=140;width=120">My Movie</a>

Where it says mymovie.extension add the URL to your movie

Adapt height and width to fit your movie

Change My Movie to what you want to display as the link text

Movie from thumbnail:

<a href="mymovie.extension" rel="shadowbox;height=140;width=120"><img src="myimage.jpg" style="width:200px; height:120px;border:0px;"></a>

Where it says mymovie.extension add the URL to your movie

Adapt height and width to fit your movie

Change My Movie to what you want to display as the link text

Where it says myimage.jpg add the URL to your image

Adapt width and height for the thumbnail

Website from link:

<a href="mywebsite.html" rel="shadowbox">Link Title</a>

Replace mywebsite.html with the URL to the page you want to open in the shadowbox

Change Link Title to what you want to display as the link text

Website from thumbnail:

<a href="mywebsite.html" rel="shadowbox"><img src="myimage.jpg" style="width:200px; height:120px;border:0px;"></a>

Replace mywebsite.html with the URL to the page you want to open in the shadowbox

Where it says myimage.jpg add the URL to your image

Adapt width and height for the thumbnail

OK, think I have found the cause, it appears to be a conflict with both NextGen Gallery and ShadowBox as far as I can tell. If you remove [album] from your code, it resolves your issue.

Therefore, you will need to either contact Nextgen support or ShadowBox author and inform them of the issue. This isn't related to PageLines, as the issue is happening in your sidebar too.

Thank you Danny, I've contacted them again - let's see what they come up with.

However, when I delete [album], it true enough gets rid of the thumbnails, but instead of opening in a shadowbox it just goes straight to Vimeo and play the videos.

That isn't happening for me, the video opens in a shadowbox. If you're still having issues, I would probably recommend a different script, you should probably ask for advice on supported plugins or scripts in the Nextgen support. I don't use Nextgen myself, so unfortunately I am unable to recommend one personally.

Yeah, I've tried all the codes provided by Shadowbox and no one opens in shadowbox when Nextgen is active. There's definetely a conflict going on there. Nextgen still rejects that there's a conflict between them and Shadowbox.

Nextgen has been reported to have many issues with WP3.6 and 3.6.1.  and premium themes.  One of my colleagues discovered that the solution is to download an older version of Nextgen and use that in place of the current one.  That seems to eliminate the conflicts in many, but not all cases.
