A mediabox, a video and autoplay

Recommended Posts

So I creatred a mediabox, uploaded my 720p video to my media library and found this HMTL which I enterd into the mediabox HTML area.

This autoplays the video:

<object width="1280" height="720">
    <param name="movie" value="http://panicbarn.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/website_alpha.mp4"> </param>
    <param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param>
    <param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param>
    <embed src="http://mysite.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/website_alpha.mp4" type="video/quicktime" width="1280" height="720" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" autoplay = "false"></embed>
</object>

Some issues I am struggling with:

- It now autoplays everytime you visit the page, how do I configure this? I realise an autoplay parameter exists but so far I have failed to find out exactly where to place it.

- do I need all those other parameters? it was just a cut and paste.

- Also if I dont autoplay, how can I get it to display a 'play' button?

In another failed attempt I found this from the HTML5 resource - this seems to create a video box with some controls on, but does not play the video:

<video width="1280" height="720" controls>
  <embed src="http://mysite.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/website_alpha.mp4" type="video/quicktime" width="1280" height="720" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"`></embed>
</video>

- Finally my media box size is 1100 by 662, is it possible to auto resize to the media box size?

Thanks in advance for any guidance.

I put videos on my site by pasting the code into text boxes and it's worked great.

Unfortunately using a text box doesn't solve a number of the issues I mention above: it's my own video not youtube, it's dimensions are larger than the mediabox (I want to use a mediabox) and the autoplay issue.

Your site looks good though!

Any other help very welcome.

What if you posted it privately to YouTube?

Thanks for saying my site looks good - if only I could solve the nasty text box padding issue!  The whole thing is done with exactly three lines of code:  my-green-area, my-lime-area and my-green text.

Appreciate the youtube solution and could go down the hosting elsewhere route but would be interested to know how to solve the above issues with a hosted video.

Hi try adding <embed autostart="false">

Full link i got this from is http://www.webdeveloper.com/forum/showthread.php?241333-HTML-how-to-disable-autoplay for further reference :-)

Kindly search the forum and read the documentation before posting. It will help you resolve many issues.

For CSS help be sure to check out W3Schools first and be sure to download FireBug for FireFox for troubleshooting.

Thanks James.

In the end everything seemed easier with hosting the video elsewhere. So I went the Vimeo route. This seemed to work when posted into the mediabox framework in case anyone else has similar problems:

<iframe src="//player.vimeo.com/video/73514763" width="1280" height="720" frameborder="0" webkitallowfullscreen mozallowfullscreen allowfullscreen></iframe>
