CSS Section Extras?

I was able to follow the tutorial on how to add background color to certain columns / sections. Like:

 

/* blue background, white text */

.my-blue-area {

    background-color: #0055CC;

    color: white;

 

But how would I add things like opacity and rounded corners?

Couldn't you just add those css properties to .my-blue-area?

Im not that great on CSS. I tried adding a line with "opacity: 60%;" but it didn't seem to work. I wouldnt know where to begin with rounded corners.
