Changing Color of Search Form & Search Field Navable

This works while viewing in Firebug but when applied to custom code it does not work. It also gives me Less Compile Error.

 

I want the background color of the Search field and button to be white.

 

Thank you very much for helping me in advance because it helps me learn and become more self sufficient.

Nick,

Thank you for  the hints. I changed the search button to white and added this to custom code: Search field is still green. What am I doing wrong?
