Recommended Posts

How do I go about installing a child theme for DMS?  If I am correct this will keep any custom coding I do form changing with future DMS updates correct?

coachkriswatkins as the base theme of pagelines is not available for download at this very moment, you can use Nick's base theme for PageLines DMS https://github.com/bearded-avenger/nicks-base-theme (Nick is a PageLines DMS developer)

Yes, Nicks and the old version are one in the same, essentially, and will work.

Hi there!

I've been trying to get started with the child themes, have tried both Nicks and Pagelines very own (find it here https://www.dropbox.com/s/g0tgq9ug1h1km98/dms-template-theme.zip).

However, even when they are completely blank, they still mess up the framework. The move/edit/etc buttons can in some instances not be touched, because content below the buttons are overlapping. The line-height of paragraphs is also changed so it looks bad.

Please fix these issues so we can get to work with the child-themes.

Thanks!

There was a bug in mine that i patched today. The variables.less file was outdated so was causing issues with the little pencil icon. You can actually fix this yourself if you'd like. Just COPY the variables.less file from pagelines/less into your theme/less/variables.less, overriding what's there. Flush caches, refresh, issue with my base fixed. Sorry for the troubles.

Im excited to explore child themes. :) When using a child theme, do you have to have the parent theme installed? Is the child theme available for download yet?

beardedavenger Hi Nick! This is my first exploration into Child Themes. I visited the Docs, and there was very little information there about how to actually use them. I also downloaded your master child theme and installed it (on a site that I already had DMS customized on- and so it took on that styling).

Can you provide a step-by-step about how to actually use a child theme properly? Here is what I am guessing, but I am not sure:

  1. Install DMS
  2. Install and activate child theme
  3. Customize child theme just like any other DMS site
  4. When site is complete > Global options > theme config publishing
  5. Rename theme, provide screenshot, etc. (or should I do this earlier in the process?)
  6. Install new theme on brand new site (does that site also need DMS installed?) and it will come in looking like the theme customized elsewhere.

Thanks in advance for any help that you can provide to me!

:) Jackie
