Features Aspect Ratio For Youtube Videos

Recommended Posts

bellasmom
Hi,
I use the features to display recent videos but have an issue with the sizing aspect with the features. I have been playing around with the features section and cannot get the ratio right. It looks distorted. I have the features set up so that it is set to static height, with the aspect mode-ratio being 4:3. (For a W 420 x H 315) I used this tool to generate that ratio: http://size43.com/jqueryVideoTool-4x3.html

I am embedding the code straight from youtube but the sizes are off. It is checked off as Make Feature HTML Full Width, which looks great and is easier for visitors to find the videos but I would like to keep them more in proportion, if that is possible. I do not wish to post my site publicly but will do so via pm. I have been combing the forums but have not seen this particular problem. Thank you!

Hi,

Aspect ratio is limited to static images set in the slider's background field.  Youtube, Vimeo or other videos inside the Media area should be sized specifically by the source. They are not scalable by aspect ratio.

The only way to give your videos proper proportion is to use the settings in the video source (the code provided will include a width and height). When you adjust the video to full width, they are going out of proportion -- essentially, stretched horizontally to fill a space, but not scaled to match the corresponding height.  Luckily, both Vimeo and Youtube have options for old embed code in which you may set the height and width so that they're proportional there.

Let's say that you have a video that is 500w by 250h and want to make it fill a space of 1000w. That means the container must be 500h.  If the container is 250h and 1000w, the video is going to look 'scrunched' or compressed.  Aspect ratio can't resize the container to 1000w by 500h.  However, the video can be set to those dimensions in old embed code.

I hope this helps! Please let us know if you need additional guidance.

Hi, Rob!

Excellent advice! Sorry to take so long to respond. Pagelines is very easy to use and I tend to forget that because of the previous templates I have used where you make one mistake and suffer for it. Everything looks fabulous! Thank you!
