Creating a blog page and posts

Recommended Posts

Hi, I really need some help please!

I’m trying to create a blog page and I’m have a lot of problems.  I’m not sure if it’s all the same problem or if there are different problems, so please bear with me!

I want my blog page to have images with excerpts of the posts underneath and a button linked to the individual post saying “read full article”, and I want people to be able to add comments on the posts.

I’ve created a blog page and some posts, I can see in the template set up section that there are templates for blog and blog post, but when I create a blog page I do not get the option of selecting the blog template under page attributes, therefore it is assigned to default template, is this correct?  In assume that posts are automatically assigned to the blog post template?

My main problem, however, is that when I try to view the post from the “create post” page, or click on the read full article link on the blog page, or try to add comment from the blog page, I get the following message:-

Please can you help me?

Many thanks.

Hello jonathon

Can we have a link to your site please?

The answer to many issues can be found by searching in the forum before posting as someone else  may very well have had the same problem before you have.  Also, reading the documentation can help you gain a good understanding of how everything works.

Hi there

Looking at the error message you've included do you have a plugin which is mentioned in the code? If so when you deactivate that does it resolve? An XML file is usually when you upload a settings file into Pagelines. Have you imported anything recently?

To make changes on the blog tempalte you'll need to go to Pagelines>page options>blog templates and make the changes in the meta settings, there are no options for single pages in the meta unfortunately. You'd need to make these in the site-wide meta and then adjust the page meta to suit.

Kindly search the forum and read the documentation before posting. It will help you resolve many issues.

For CSS help be sure to check out W3Schools first and be sure to download FireBug for FireFox for troubleshooting.

Hi,

I haven't imported anything, but I tried deactivating one plugin at a time and after deactivating one in particular I stopped getting this message but it was then going to the 404 error page.  I then changed the permalink setting to postname and that seems to have done the trick, although I'm not sure why?!  Anyway, it now seems to be working fine, I've reactivated all the plugins and it still seems to be working okay.

As far as the templates go, I understand what you're saying I'm just unsure because I can't assign the blog template to the blog page in page attributes because that template isn't available to select, you can only choose from template 1 to 6 or default template and I wasn't sure if that would make any difference?

Thank you for all your help, it's much appreciated.

Regards.

Jonathan
