Author page including profile and post excerpts

I don't know if this is a customisation or possible with PL 'out of the box'.

I would like to show author pages with a picture of the author and at the bottom the excerpts of the posts they have written.

What would be the best option to achieve this?

I was thinking of creating a page for each author would be the simplest way, but to get their posts underneath?

Hi,

We do have a plugin called Profiles, though to be quite honest, I haven't had the opportunity to really use it and test it.

Personally, I created an individual page for each author.  For each author, I also created a category.  Each post by an author is assigned to his or her category.

Then, on the page I've assigned a plugin that pulls thumbnails and/or excerpts from the posts by the author, using the category.  There are several plugins, though I prefer Special Recent Posts, which affords the maximum amount of control by CSS to style the excerpts, images, titles, etc.

HI Rob,

Thanks for the suggestion! I think this is a good option.

I also just found another option, although not so user friendly: http://codex.wordpress.org/Author_Templates

I could check if it's an author page, and then if on the first page of author pages, use the hooks plugin to add the code in the link.

<?php
$curauth = (isset($_GET['author_name'])) ? get_user_by('slug', $author_name) : get_userdata(intval($author));
?>

Hi Kneops

Pagelines includes author pages in the drag and drop templates, these will allow you to also put in an author section which includes your image and your user profile at the top, the settings for these are in the wp admin area users>your profile> in the pl meta at the bottom.

The result will be something like the following with all your posts below - http://screencast.com/t/2eRxHQOTDJA

Hello James,

I didn't know that. I added the post author info with the drag and drop to the author template, but I can't find the settings for it. I looked at the users > your profile > at the bottom, but there is nothing there... ?

Thanks for the screenshot. Actually what I meant was that James referrred to PL meta settings at the bottom of that page, but I can't see that.

Hi there,

Apologies Kneops, my error I was thinking of two different areas for profile info and got them muddled. That was meta area I was referring to for the 'post author' section, fill in the meta at the bottom of the profile page. About yourself, description etc.

There is a Pl meta box as well if you use the profiles section, that will allow you to use the pl meta options instead which are at the bottom of the 'your profile' page. - http://screencast.com/t/dyd9YnJLIQD

I'm sorry to bother you again James, but where can I find that profiles section? It's not in the default installation of PL and I can't find it under the free or premium sections on the PL site.

Hi, Profiles may be found at Dashboard > PageLines > Store > Sections > Top Premium on the last page of sections, near the bottom of the page. It is a premium product.

I'm trying to understand this thread.

 From what I read, it seems as though PL has all the basics for an author page, without actually given an author page?  To get that I pay for a plugin?

Do I understand that right?

Hi there, the PageLines Framework has a built in template for author pages. These are created dynamically and pull in the posts depending on who wrote them. You can add additional items to the template, like the profiles plugin but Framework has the 'post author' section included.

The Post Author template can be modified in PageLines>Page Options> - http://screencast.com/t/XHp5QrD7hf

To find the author page on your site for a particular author (depending on how you set your permalinks), follow the format

www.your-url.com/author/username/
