Customization Post List Archive Category

Hi,

I'm facing a strange issue displaying my post by category.

If I go to the category http://www.bienal-stp.org/category/noticias/ everything is correct and setup has I defined in PageLines-> Site Options -> Blogs and Posts

 

but, when I click in one of the left links of category archive by month http://www.bienal-stp.org/2013/01/?cat=7 I loose thumb and excerpt, I don't have the posts list with the same appearance as in general category page.

 

How can I fix this?

Hi,

 

Go to Dashboard > PageLines > Site Options > Blog And Posts and find this: Post Thumbnail Placement

 

There, make sure that Category Lists is checked.

 

Scroll down to Post Excerpt or Summary Handling

 

Make sure that Category Lists is checked there as well.

 

Save the settings. Let us know if this worked.

Hi,

I have those settings defined and effectively it works on  http://www.bienal-stp.org/category/noticias/

but if I select only posts from one specific month (with left side bar archive by category widget) I get a list of posts without settings applied http://www.bienal-stp.org/2013/01/?cat=7

 

I don't understand why posts are displayed differently if they are the same!

We list came from widget month selection looses Dashboard formatting.

When a post is listed in a blog page, it is the formatting of the Blog template and settings that controls it.

 

Individually, it's the Blog Page template that controls the list of posts.  Settings can determine if the posts will display thumbnails.

 

You set the settings for categories different than for individual posts or blog pages.  So when you're clicking on links that go to a category, it will display differently than single posts or blog pages. You may adjust the settings, as described earlier to include thumb display on category pages, post archives, search results, etc. This ensures that the image should appear where it belongs.

 

Unless a plugin is blocking it, the thumbnail should appear.

I have all options checked in Post Thumbnail Placement  except Single Post Pages to not repeat image in post.

In Post Excerpt or Summary Handling I have the same configuration.

I've also tried to check all but page result from month category link don't provide neither thumb and excerpt.

 

The fact is that url after link click http://www.bienal-stp.org/2013/01/?cat=7 don't assumes the same layout has category page http://www.bienal-stp.org/category/noticias/

 

I have no idea how to resolve this. With firebug I can't see excerpt and thumb also.

Hello Hugo,

 

There is nothing wrong with your template or setup.  Special Recent Posts doesn't work on Category pages because they are dynamic content. It only works on static pages.

 

So, here's how you do this.

Create a category for each year - like 2013

Create a subcategory for each month of that year - 2013 > January 13, February 13, etc.

Make a note of the category ID of each category and subcategory you create.

Then, go to Dashboard > Pages > Add New.

Using Noticias as the parent page, make sub-pages for each category and subcategory.

Apply the shortcode for SRP to each page, changing the category ID to the corresponding category or subcategory.

 

In this way, the page for 2013 would show recent posts for 2013 category.  The sub-page for January will show the subcategory for January 2013.

 

In your menu, you can add new pages for each page, manually as custom links or as page links, using the Wordpress options available at Dashboard > Appearance > Menus.

 

Your site is working fine, and there's nothing wrong with the menu or template.  The menu is presently directing to category pages, and that's the only issue. SInce category pages can't display SRP, you're not seeing that plugin there.

 

The reason for the images not showing up on the category pages is probably a plugin.  I see you have two possible plugins - Image Widget and WordPress Category Archive that may be affecting these images. Nothing is wrong with your settings for PageLines, so something is stopping the images from displaying.

i'm back to you because I made some tests and found something strange!

Forget SRP, I created a new menu item for Category Noticias called "NoticiasCat".

Entering on it, I have everything perfect, all my posts displays has configured in Dashboard!

 

I putted on left sidebar 2 new widgets, "All" is a Archives widget (has all categories) and "Category Archive" is a Category Archive for Noticias category.

Both are standard from Widgets menu.

If I enter by one link from "All" I get a correct post list with thumbs, but entering by "Category Archive" posts are displayed only with title.

Could it be some problem with Category Archive widget?

 

Links are made different:

"All" -> http://www.bienal-stp.org/2013/01/

"Category Archive" -> http://www.bienal-stp.org/2013/01/?cat=7

 

I promise that I don't mess you more, but effectively the widget behavior is different, and could be a bug!!!

Since the Category Archive widget is from a plugin, it is very likely that the plugin doesn't support thumbnails.  I mentioned earlier that this is one of two plugins I thought might be a problem.  Try deactivating it and let WordPress deliver the content for the category. Which seems to work for the first option you tried.

I will try to get a new plugin to fix this!

My problem is to have a archive only for Noticias Category, and not for all categories!

I don't think you need a plugin for Categories or Archives. If you do the pages and categories I suggested, it works great. I do that myself on www.epicurus.com/magazine.
