Hi,

How do I remove the message to update from my admin?

When I tried to update on of my sites it said there was an error and that there was no stylesheet.css

And when I tried to update another it said error removing file.

Thanks

Hi,

The only way to remove the update notification in the admin dashboard is to run the update. If you're having difficulty updating, then there is most likely an issue with your server.

Can you provide a link to the site(s) in question and enable PageLines debug mode on both of them please.

You can enable PageLines debug mode by going to PageLines > Site Options > Advanced.

Hi,

Your updates, custom CSS for example, are stored in the database, not in the Framework's folder.

To fix this, you'll want to do several steps.

1.  Go to http://www.pagelines.com/launchpad/member.php and login.

2.  Access your Account and download the latest version of PageLines Framework (2.4.1) as a zip file.

3.  Unzip the file and save the pagelines folder to your desktop.

4.  FTP to your site and navigate to wp-content/themes/

5.  Delete the pagelines folder found in wp-content/themes

6.  Upload the pagelines folder on your desktop to wp-content/themes

7.  Login to your Dashboard. Go to Appearance > Themes and make sure that PageLines Framework (or your child theme) is activated.

This should resolve the updating issue. Likely this was caused by permissions or ownership which should be resolved by this process.

I'll try this, thanks...

How often am I going to have to do this?

We have about 6 sites using pagelines now but in a years time we will most like have over 100...

We update PageLines Framework quite frequently, adding new features, functionality and bug fixes. However, there should really be no need to fear an update. I recommend you read through our customisation methods documentation, which has information about how to customise PageLines Framework.

http://support.pagelines.me/docs/customization/customization-methods/

Using one of these methods to add your customisation, will mean your custom code is protected from updates and therefore, will not be overwritten. However, I would always suggest having a backup copy of your custom code just as a precaution.

Okay so I did as I was told.

Now all of my custom sidebars have been removed (I added them how I was told to add them).

And all of my standard pagelines sidebars have been emptied...

Which customisation method did you use? Did you follow Robs steps or one of the methods from the documentation provided by Danny?

The answer to many issues can be found by searching in the forum before posting as someone else  may very well have had the same problem before you have.  Also, reading the documentation can help you gain a good understanding of how everything works.

Hi,

This is quoted from my post.

wp-content/themes/pagelines-template-theme/sections/

Note: If you have renamed, the child theme, then navigate there instead.

A Child theme is a customisation method.

Oh shit.

I did not know what that meant at the time.

Please tell me how to create a child theme.

Should I be creating child themes for all of my sites?

We recommend using one of the Customisation methods, such as the Customise plugin or a child theme. All this information is available on the customisation methods doc, that I linked above.

Okay so i know I go an install the base child theme from the store.

Once I have activated it, where do I edit it?

All the information is on the Customisation Methods page - http://support.pagelines.me/docs/customization/customization-methods/

style.css - Add your custom CSS here

functions.php - Add your hooks here

style.less - Add your custom LESS CSS and CSS here (this file needs to be created - see our customisation methods doc for a sample style.less)

I have now marked this topic as resolved.
