Please help with several iBlog tweaks

Recommended Posts

eltorro

I have a few things I'm trying to do w/ iBlog (AWESOME theme, btw). Can someone help me with these items? Thank you in advance! 1) I want to "turn off" the ads, flickr photos, meta, links and archive section on the blog sidebar. 2) I want to remove the "previous" and "next" links above each blog post. 3) I want to add Facebook commenting below each post (ie, where do I put the facebook code so it's beneath the post and above the theme's commenting section?) 4) I'd like to add a facebook share option in the sharing section of the footer of each post. 5) I'd like to remove the date stamps on the blog posts AND the blog comments. 6) I added a Facebook Like button using the popular wp plugin, but half of the button gets covered up, like it's behind something. How do I get it so it is fully viewable? I think that's it!

1. Simply go to Appearance > Widgets and only add the sidebar items you want. 2. Add this to your Theme Options > Custom Code > Custom CSS: `.previous, .next{display:none}` 3. Can you please post the code for this. 4. Have you considered a plugin for this? http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/search.php?q=facebook+like 5. `.metabar, .comment-meta{display:none}` 6. For this we need a link to your site, and please point us to an example page. Thanks, Bryan

Bryan, this is awesome. Thank you... Here's where I'm at so far... 1) Done. 2) Done and it properly removed the previous/next post links, but there's still a lot of real estate there. That is, the post didn't move up to fill the space where the previous/next links were. 3) I don't have the code for it yet, but it's the code that Facebook generates for you at this page: http://developers.facebook.com/docs/reference/plugins/comments 4) Sorry, I should've been more clear. What I mean is I'd like to add a Facebook icon in the footer of each post so that it remains consistent with the other footer icons that come with the theme. 5) I added this to the theme options > custom code > custom css, but it didn't work. Here's a screen shot that still shows the date stamp for comments: http://screencast.com/t/MWU5OTYwM 6) The site is currently in development (w/ no public access) however, here is a screen shot of what I'm talking about: http://screencast.com/t/MTJhZWQy

Scratch # 6 off... I figured it out. (had mistakenly put in a width that was too short to display the button).

Few more things... 7) How do I remove the pagelines logo in the footer? 8) Content that I add to theme options > footer options > site terms statement is not showing up. See what I mean here: http://screencast.com/t/MDFmMzRhMz (this is an image of the admin & front end footer together).

5) I added this to the theme options > custom code > custom css, but it didn't work. Here's a screen shot that still shows the date stamp for comments: http://screencast.com/t/MWU5OTYwM
Use this for the comments date stamp and logo `.commentlist .comment-meta, #cred {display:none;}`
8) Content that I add to theme options > footer options > site terms statement is not showing up. See what I mean here: http://screencast.com/t/MDFmMzRhMz (this is an image of the admin & front end footer together).
If you have widgets placed in that section the site terms options won't work. Site terms only work the default setup- use a text widget if you already placed widgets in the footer columns.

Thanks for all your help so far... Here's a recap of where I'm at: 1) Done 2) Almost done - It properly removed the previous/next post links, but there's still a lot of real estate there. That is, the post didn't move up to fill the space where the previous/next links were. Any easy way to fix this? 3) Still needing resolution. 4) Still needing resolution. 5) Done. (Thanks Adam!) 6) Done. 7) Done. 8) I haven't added any footer widgets, so I'm not sure why it's not showing my site terms. 9) Thanks for the help on this one - I haven't implemented it yet, but it looks fairly straight forward. 10) My accordion sidebar is wigging out. No matter what content I place in the widget, it gives me a weird background with a horizontal line. See what I mean here: http://screencast.com/t/ODJiYjQzN

1) Done. Good. 2) Let's update this to: `.post-nav, .previous, .next{display:none}` 3) You can try posting this code in Appearance > Editor > _post_footer.php just below: `

` 4) This should be automatic, is the graphic itself off, let me see a link to a post page please. 5) Done. (Thanks Adam!) Good. 6) Done. Good. 7) Done. Good. 8) From the screenshot it appears that you've altered or hidden part of the footer is some fashion that is causing the problem. Also, from Appearance > Widgets you could manually add in your own Text widget with whatever you want in it. 9) Okay, let us know. 10) Hmm, with an actual live link to your site we might be able to help with this better. Thanks, Bryan

2) That did the trick! Thanks! Done. 4) Unless I'm missing something, a Facebook icon is not there. Here's a screenshot: http://screencast.com/t/ZjU1OGQwZ 8) Hmmm. I haven't touched the footer - other than the css to turn off the pagelines logo. I'm wanting it to behave like the footer on another site I did with iblog: http://www.alcopstore.com 9) Unfortunately, I can't give out a live link until the site is live. And I can't take it live until these issues are resolved, lol.

4) Aaah, you simply need to go to: Theme Options > Pages and Posts > and at the very bottom select Facebook to be shown and save. 8) Can you post all your CSS from Custom CSS? 9-10) I think we find ourselves at a catch 22 then. You may contact Anna privately to consult about services; anna(at)pagelines.com Thanks, Bryan

4) I don't have a Facebook option. See pic: http://screencast.com/t/YjBiYmU0 8) <style type="text/css"> <?php if(pagelines('body_background')):?> body{ background:<?php echo pagelines('body_background');?>; } #blogtitle .sheen {display:none;} <?php endif;?> <?php if(pagelines('primary_header_font')):?> h1, h2, #feature .fheading{ font-family: <?php echo pagelines('primary_header_font');?>;} <?php endif;?> <?php if(pagelines('secondary_header_font')):?> h3, h4, h5 { font-family: <?php echo pagelines('secondary_header_font');?>;} <?php endif;?> <?php if(pagelines('entry_image_style')):?> .hentry img{ <?php echo pagelines('entry_image_style');?>;} <?php endif;?> <?php if (pagelines('headercolor')):?> h1, h2, h3, h4, h5, h6, h1 a, h2 a, h3 a, h4 a, h5 a{color: <?php echo pagelines('headercolor'); ?>;} <?php endif;?> <?php if (pagelines('linkcolor')):?> a, #blogtitle a:hover, .postdata a:hover,h2.posttitle a:hover, .tags a:hover, .commentlist cite, .commentlist cite a, #morefoot a:hover, #sidebar ul li ul li a, #wp-calendar caption, #subnav .current_page_item a, #subnav .current_page_ancestor a, #subnav li a:hover{color:<?php echo pagelines('linkcolor'); ?>;} <?php endif;?> <?php if (pagelines('linkcolor_hover')):?> a:hover, .commentlist cite a:hover, #sidebar ul li ul li a:hover, #subnav .current_page_item a:hover, #subnav .current_page_ancestor a:hover{color:<?php echo pagelines('linkcolor_hover'); ?>;} <?php endif;?> <?php if (pagelines('metacolor')):?> .post-title .metabar em{background:<?php echo pagelines('metacolor');?>;} <?php endif;?> <?php if (pagelines('metacolortext')):?> .post-title .metabar em{color:<?php echo pagelines('metacolortext');?>;} <?php endif;?> <?php if (pagelines('metacolorlink')):?> .post-title .metabar em a{color:<?php echo pagelines('metacolorlink');?>;} <?php endif;?> <?php if(pagelines('hidesearch')):?> #nav ul{width: 950px;} <?php endif;?> <?php if (pagelines('customcss')):?> <?php echo pagelines('customcss');?> <?php endif;?> </style>

4) Login into your http://www.pagelines.com/launchpad/member.php account and make sure you're using the latest version of your theme. 8) That's the wrong code, so I suspect this probably isn't a problem anyways. Just in case check: Theme Options > Custom Code > Custom CSS to see if there is anything in there besides: `body{}` Thanks, Bryan

4) I couldn't log in because I forgot my password. When I submitted my email to retrieve my password it said my email didn't exist in the database. 8) Yes, I have a few things in there (partly from your advice in this thread). Here's what I have... body{} #footer, #morefoot { display:none } .post-nav, .previous, .next{ display:none } .metabar, .comment-meta{ display:none } a.plimage, #cred { display:none; } .commentlist .comment-meta, #cred { display:none; }

There is a lot going on here so to rehash we have two problems left? 1. You need a post-footer facebook icon. (check your functions_body.php in core > templates to see if the code referencing facebook is there) 2. You need your site terms to show up. (Is this the only thing not showing up in the footer?) Is that right?

Cmunns - don't screw up our awesome numbering system! ;0) 4) Figured out that the account was under a different email address. However, when I log in it only shows iblog 3, but I received iblog 4 and would like to download the latest version to make sure it's current. Can you update my account? It's under the pking@alcopstore.com email address. Also - I checked my ftp and I don't have a templates folder in the core folder. 8) Yes, I just need site terms to show up in the footer... exactly like what I have here on another site I did with iblogpro: http://www.alcopstore.com. 9-10) Got approval to launch w/ these issues outstanding presuming you can help me get them resolved asap. (see above) Thanks so much for all your help! You guys are great...

4) This is for the developers. 8) Okay, here's what's in your Custom CSS that's messing this up: ` #footer, #morefoot { display:none } ` As this is hiding the section of the page where your Terms would show up. You could try either just: ` #footer { display:none } ` or just: ` #morefoot { display:none } ` instead to see if that is satisfactory. 9-10) Please recap us at that time. Thanks, Bryan

8) Neither of those options is what I'm looking for. I'd like it to look exactly like the footer I have on this site: http://www.alcopstore.com. 9-10) We will be launching shortly. I will follow up with these items soon. cmunns - I was wanting to make sure I had the latest iblog theme. I have iblog 4 installed right now, but when I log into my account, I only see iblog 3. I'd like to download and install the latest iblog 4 to make sure it's the most current.

10) I figured out why my sidebar widget was wigging out... I didn't want a title, so I left it blank. Apparently, whenever you do that, the theme doesn't like it. So, I just put a title in since it wasn't THAT important. That said, we moved ahead and made the site live. Please take a look and let me know what you can do to help with the footer so we can make it look like the footer at http://www.alcopstore.com. Here's a link to the site: http://www.LinkedStrategies.com

8) You could try a little trick for this, you could try adding: ` ` for the title, this will appease the theme gods and still hide the title from the viewer, or I could use some CSS if you let me know which sidebar widget it is. 10) Okay, I see what you'd like to do. What they're doing on the other site is using the Bottom Full Width Sidebar. You need to go to: Appearance > Widgets and add a Text widget to the full width sidebar area with your copyright, terms link etc. You'll want to wrap it in: `

` To center it. Now, the tedious part is that you'll need to individually edit every pages options, checking the box to show that sidebar. Thanks, Bryan

8) The theme gods bit! Thanks... 10) I was the one who created that other site and for whatever reason, the footer html took when I added it to the theme options footer field. Editing every page won't be a viable option for us as we have several hundred pages (presuming you mean blog posts as well). There's got to be a way I can edit the raw footer.php file or some other simple way to achieve this since we did it using the same theme on AlCopStore.com. 11) Not a iblog theme question, but you guys have been super cool so far, so I thought I'd see if you can help me with this other issue. Before we completed our redesign, the site had 2 wordpress installs: One at the root level and one at the /blog directory. We exported all the posts from the /blog directory and imported them to the wordpress installed at the root level and then created a page named "blog" and updated the Settings > Reading to point the posts page to the new blog page. All the old blog posts could be found at LinkedStrategies.com/blog/blog-post-name. But, now (since we've imported them) they're at LinkedStrategies.com/blog-post-name. So anyone linking to the old path is getting a 404. Is there an easy way to update it so that my url paths remain consistent with how they used to work? If that's outside of the scope of this forum, I totally understand. Just wanted to ask in case it was an easy fix and you wouldn't mind sharing.

8) Wonderful 10) Yes, you could easily edit footer.php and add your own copyright line. I just assumed you wanted to keep everything settings based as much as possible limiting the manual re-edits that would need to be made every time after upgrading your theme. Using my method, no you shouldn't have to edit every single post page, just the main/initial blog homepage. 11) Yes, I had to do this myself. One of these plugins should do the trick: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/search.php?q=Permalink+Redirect Thanks, Bryan
