Just wanted responsive design

Hello

I just purchased the Better-Carousel section. Love the improvement regarding responsive layout for mobile devices. But. Don't love the formatting compared to the original - I'm using the iBlogPro5 theme. And have switched back to the original carousel as a result.

Is it possible to just implement the responsive capability and leave the rest of the settings based on the original carousel?

I'm not exactly sure what you mean? The Carousels have the same functionality with the exception of Flickr RSS. Better Carousel doesn't require the extra plugin to work.

There isn't any extra plug-in. But a child theme has been applied - PageLines iBlogPro5.  The standard carousel picks up the theme style. It seems the better-carousel doesn't. I thought it would as the notes indicated it uses the same logic.

I've created a page to demonstrate: http://www.joiningdots.com/temp/

The first carousel is the standard one - looks nice but isn't as responsive. The second carousel is the better-carousel - is responsive but doesn't look as nice. I'd like to keep the formatting but with the responsive approach, without having to recreate the theme css if possible.

iBlogPro5 has special styling for that carousel. It's nothing to do with the carousel itself, it's the styling from the child theme. The selectors in Better Carousel are different.

So does that mean the better-carousel can't pick up the styling? Because if so, it would help if you made it clear in the notes that it doesn't work well with sites using a PageLines child theme. I adore your bad-ass shortcodes - they are fab! But I feel like I have wasted my money purchasing this add-in. Bit frustrated as it seemed like the perfect improvement.

No it's not going to pick up the styling, because iBlogPro5 has specific styling for the core Carousel section, not my 3rd party section. iBlogPro5 was out LONG before my section was.

An yes it works beautifully with a child theme. It's up to the child theme author to provide styling support for 3rd party sections.

The section (as with EVERY one of my sections) uses core LESS variables that match themselves to the background color of the site.

Can I suggest you include that in the notes for this and any other sections: 'please note it's up to child theme authors to provide styling support for 3rd party sections to match to the theme'. Might sound obvious in hindsight but had I known, I wouldn't have purchased it. I will assume the same applies to other sections and stick with the core features. Shame - your work is great. I was eyeing up the super widgets and others but guess they will all have the same issue.

Seems the 3rd party sections are only really useful for people who create and maintain their own child theme.

3rd party sections work with child themes and the main framework, they do not have any "issues" at all. Again, it's up to the theme author to provide styling support.

      Hi Nick, I downloaded the DMS version of Better Carousel from my launchpad.  After I activated the NextGen plugin, the Better Carousel section says the NextGen gallery has to be installed and activated.  I created a few test galleries and images and put the proper ID's in the configuration, but it keeps telling me the plugin needs to be installed and activated.  Am I downloading the correct thing?  The  correct plugin?  The plugin I installed and activated is "NextGEN Gallery by Photocrati."

      hi, do you have any suggestions on how i would hook in a music playlist so that instead of streaming out text with an mp3 link, the player would stream an image with an mp3 link to better carousel?

      Hi Nick,

      want to share my customization work for wonderful Better-Carousel to integrate beautifully into iBlogPro5 plus adding two suggestions and wishes for the product to make the better even better

      First of all: unfortunately out of the box iBlogPro5 will overwrite Better-Carousel if you have an activated iAccordion-Section because of a jQuery-conflict! Using the Framework only - no problem.
      This was reported and solved in the following topic:

      http://www.pagelines.com/forum/topic/26695-iblogpro5-overwrites-better-carousel/?p=155821

      Better-Carousel needs a proper working jQuery for its responsive design! For a shortcut I pasted the solution part of the threat in here:

      * * *

      »To be more specific:  jQuery UI 1.8.16 - from iAccordion seems to be causing a conflict with jQuery FlexSlider v2.1 in Better-Carousel.

      My solution was: erasing  jQuery UI 1.8.16 in pagelines-iblogpro5 > sections > iaccordion > jquery.ui.accordion.js
      And don't touch the parts: jQuery UI Widget 1.8.16 and jQuery UI Accordion 1.8.16 ! They seem to be responsible to have a working accordion widget in the sidebar.

      I'm not a pro and I was just playing around with that, but this gave me a working Accordion-Widget + the Better-Carousel working like default and untouched.
      Please note: Editing directly in the core will be overwritten with future updates - so whenever you install a iBlogPro5-Update - you might have to redo this work! «

      1. Suggestion - images should not be cut scrolling to the next set of images - two screenshots show what I mean:
      http://www.screencast.com/t/UO6RPwwVemui

      1st screenshot shows the layout and design of the first set of images in the carousel - perfectly fitting into the box.

      http://www.screencast.com/t/ns8WbbbbUu05

      2nd screenshot shows the images being cut after scrolling to the next image sets. I would prefer they would neatly fill the space and not be cutted - behaving like in the pagelines carousel!

      2. Suggestion - It would be nice if you could add the text-blend-in effect on <hover> like in the pagelines carousel as an option. Would look great, I think.

      So here is my Customization-CSS from the screenshots above for anybody who wants to add Better Carousel to iBlogPro5 and play around with it - enjoy:
      /* BETTER CAROUSEL (Margins, Shadows etc.) */ .better-carousel .slides li, .better-carousel.better-clone .slides li { background: none repeat scroll 0 0 #FFFFFF; border: 1px solid #FFFFFF; box-shadow: 0 1px 2px rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.4); margin: 1px 0px 3px 1px; padding: 3px; } #better-carousel li { margin-right: 14px; } /* BETTER CAROUSEL (Box etc.) */ .better-carousel, .better-carousel.better-clone { background-color: #FAFAFA; background-image: -moz-linear-gradient(center top , #FFFFFF, #F2F2F2); background-repeat: repeat-x; border: 1px solid #FFFFFF; border-radius: 4px 4px 4px 4px; padding: 20px 20px 5px; text-shadow: 0 1px 0 #FFFFFF; border-color: #E4E4E4 #CCCCCC #BBBBBB; border-style: solid; border-width: 1px; box-shadow: 0 1px 0 #CCCCCC; } .better-control-nav { margin-top: 5px; } /* BETTER CAROUSEL (Navigation Buttons) */ .better-control-paging li a { -moz-box-sizing: border-box; background: none repeat scroll 0 0 #E7E9EC; border-radius: 12px 12px 12px 12px; box-shadow: 0 1px 3px rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.3) inset, 0 1px 0 rgba(255, 255, 255, 0.2); color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.4); display: inline-block; font-size: 12px; line-height: 20px; } /* BETTER CAROUSEL (Titelbox Adjustments) */ .better-carousel-item-title { height: 65px; margin-right: : -4px; padding: 5px; background: none; box-shadow: inherit; line-height: 15px; } /* BETTER CAROUSEL (Text istance to image (-) values bringing text into the image and overlay) */ .better-carousel .slides li img, .better-carousel.better-clone .slides li img { display: block; margin-bottom: 0px; } Aloha - Tang
