New page with all blogposts

4 posts in this topic

In 'Settings > Reading' I have set 'Front page displays' to 'latest posts'. But that homepage has loads of other stuff.

I would like to create another 'clean' homepage for the blogposts only.

I have tried to drag & drop the 'postloop' into the content area of 'template 2' and created a new page titled "Blog" with this template... but this doesn't do the trick. It shows an empty page. What am I missing?

How to create a second home for blogposts only? Preferably with title, date posted, featured image, some text, nr of comments.

Man thanks in advance,

Kind regards,

Hi Floris,

When you use the Wordpress Static pages setting, your homepage will be not be able to contain posts without a little help. In order to add your posts, or display a few of your latest posts you will either need to use a plugin such as Special Recent Posts or a section such as AnyLoop.

Also, for your interest Wordpress only allows one blog page, if you require more then you will need to use categories.

Thanks for the response, Danny -

I understand that Wordpress assigns the the index page for blog posts, but we often will be able to run a query/loop on a page template to produce a set of posts (e.g. certain category posts, custom post types, etc).

In our case, we would like to run loop (default, most recent first) on the home page (in addition to maintaining the blog page) and use wordpress tags to pull tags, post-meta, excerpt, thumbnail, etc.

Thanks for your help!

Hi Floris,

Let me apologize in advance if I've misunderstood this...

While WordPress index (home) page will call the number of posts set in Dashboard > Settings > Reading, it may be overridden by a static homepage.  These will not have posts on them unless you use a plugin like Special Recent Posts.  However, if you create a page called blog, news or anything you desire, you may set that to be the blog page in the lower of the two drop downs at the Reading settings page.

This will automatically pull the same number of posts as a default homepage.  However, no matter what template you apply, it will still show as using the Blog template.  The reason for this is that PageLines is applying the Special Page template to allow the blog posts to be formatted cleanly and without interference.  If you want to add things like sliders, boxes, etc, you may apply them to the Blog template in Drag & Drop.

You may read more about static Blog pages and Front pages.  A blank page will invariably result when the blog page isn't set up correctly or if the incorrect sections are added or subtracted in the template.

    • Blog Posts No Longer Working
      By Rob Thomas+
For some reason the main site of my multisite has lost the functionality of its blog page.
If you click on a non-link post (i.e. not the links Pageline allows you to set up in the "Format" menu when you edit the post, or video, etc, but set as a "Standard" post), you get no content and a page that only shows a comments field (e.g. "Leave a reply"). If you go into "edit" the post, the content shows up. But not under "view post."
I have toggled to all non-Pagelines themes and it works fine in twenty eleven, thirteen and fourteen. It does not work in any Pagelines theme (e.g. postpins, DMS, iBlogPro, etc.). This appears to be confined to this blog. None of the other blogs on the multisite are affected. I have tested with all of the plugins turned off. No effect.
Debug only returns the following message:
Notice: wpdb::escape is deprecated since version 3.6! Use wpdb::prepare() or esc_sql() instead. in /www/wp-includes/functions.php on line 3411
Interestingly enough, I played around with the Permalinks. If you set them to default something interesting happens: the "Blog" item in the menu will no longer go to the "Blog" page. It will go to the "Home" page, even though the posts page is set to the "Blog" page and the Front Page is set to "Home" in Reading. Also, this one part that becomes broken when you switch back to default Permalinks works fine when you are in the visual editor but not when you log out (then you get the Blog link going to the Home page).
For posts with actual content, you can test those titled "Smut Capital of America" or "Some Problems with Linda Williams' "Hard-Core Eroticism" which are posts 7 and 8 down, respectively, since the others are just video or linked content. Yes, this is my porn studies class. So, for example:
I test my sites at the beginning of the semester and this definitely wasn't a problem before. However, that could mean this happened anytime between the end of August and now. It's too bad I didn't notice earlier. Normally, if something doesn't work, students won't say anything. So, I have to be on top of things or they use it as an excuse not to do work. It's important that I get this working as soon as possible.
I tired enabling Legacy Mode on the blog. This allowed the content posts to show up as showing full content on the Blog page, but then the newer posts that use the "link" and "video" functions from PL do not work. I also tried using PostLoop or PostPins, same result. I may have to put the content in myself and use the Legacy settings as a way to at least get things up quickly. Not sure what else to do.
This is a Multisite hosted on Flywheel. Also, I tried deleting the cache. No change.
    • How to duplicate page
      By zetanet+
I would like to use 10 iboxes (always the same 10 iboxes) as left menu on 12 pages. In this way, all pages have the same left menu and they changes only for the page main content.
I don't want to set all 10 iboxes in all 12 pages (cause i should repeat 12 times the same values).
Is it possible to duplicate a page with all the boxes already set eleven times in order to keep iboxes images/links and change only the page main content?
    • What Page Type are Posts Displayed On?
      By lbhansen
Working with a very basic installation, my blog page has a list of posts, each with a Read More button. Clicking the button opens a page with the full post. Currently that page is a bare bones page.
Where is the format of the post page defined? How can I modify it?
Can I have different post (detail) pages for different post types?
    • Modify WP Loop Section to Display Posts and Pages?
      By eusebius+
I recently added a function that allowed me to use the same tag taxonomy for both posts and pages. Thank God, it is working well.
Now, I want to modify the standard post loop in the WP Loop section to show both of those post types whenever I navigate to the archive of one of those tags. After researching a bit, I found what I believe is the right code from the Codex and have tried to include it in section.php of my overridden section, but it doesn't seem to work. Here is what I have beginning from about Line 156:
      /* * Standard loop. */ // The Query function standard_loop() { $args = array('post_type' => array( 'post', 'page' )); $query = new WP_Query( $args ); if( $query->have_posts() ) while ( $query->have_posts() ) : the_post(); the_content(); endwhile; } function loop(){ $count = 0; global $plpg; if( have_posts() ) while ( have_posts() ) : the_post(); $count++; $format = get_post_format(); What am I doing wrong?
      Thanks in advance.
    • Show 4 Posts with Masonic
      By kellid
Wondering how I can have only 4 posts show in the Masonic section?  I've tried going by category but it still adds an additional post.  Any help is greatly appreciated :) Thanks!
