CSS for buttons and Google search box

Recommended Posts

Willem-Siebe Spoelstra

Hi,

I have three things not looking the way it should be.

On my website www [dot] ruzzleonline [dot] nl I have a newsletter optin box in my header.

There is a black button (Gratis Ruzzle niewsbrief >>) in Chrome and FF, but in IE it looks totally different (no rounded corners, grey).

Also when you fil in your name in IE there is a dotted border around the box, I don't like that.

Anyone knows the CSS solution, I use the LESS file so that is also possible.

Second CSS challenge.

I added a search box from google on the left sidebar at the bottom. As you can see it looks very strange, it looks that there is a second box behind the google box and the blue searchbutton is very tiny.

Anyone knows how I can make this look beautifull?

Third challenge. How can I make my submenu 'li' fit the text of the menu item so that all words are on one line?

Kind regards,

Willem

Hi Willem,

1. For the button add the following to your custom CSS and see if this resolves your button issues.

#site #mc-embedded-subscribe {
width: 220px;
color: white;
font-weight: bold;
font-family: Verdana;
border: none;
background: black;
box-shadow: none;
-webkit-border-radius: 8px;
-moz-border-radius: 8px;
border-radius: 8px;
}

If this doesn't resolve your issue, I recommend you contact the author of the code/plugin you're using.

2. Like above, this from the looks of it is related to the CSS for the code/plugin you're using for your Google Search. As this code is not PageLines, we are unable to provide any support, you will need to contact the author of the code.

Hi,

1) This is just code, not a plugin. But I discover the F12 option in IE, there developer toolbar so I could exactly discover what the problem was.

2) Still busy with that.

3) Did not get reply on this issue.

And I have a new question. I want to use FB/Twitter and Google snippets like on http://wpforce.com/twitter-facebook-googleplus-fan-follower-count-php/.

But I don't manage to get this in the header with hooks. I can put a signup form in the header, or an advertisment or anything else. But this I don't know.

I have to echo something also, what makes it more difficult.

Hope to hear from you soon.

Kind regards,

Willem

For your third issue, you need to adjust the width of the <li> submenu (make it wider using this property: http://www.w3schools.com/cssref/pr_dim_width.asp).

As for your new issue, were you inserting the functions into the functions.php file (not the single line code, but the code directly underneath it for each social network)? I think it would be easier to find a plugin that replicates this function.

Please read the docs before posting. Please do not private message me unless I ask you to.

Hi Catrina,

I really want to use the snippets instead of another plugin.

I have Pagelines Customize plugin and there it is possible to change the functions.php. This is also what I did to have my e-mail signupform and adsense advertisment show up in header.

But with these snippets, I don't know how to get them in my header. Hope you can help me out with this.

Kind regards,

Willem

PS I will trie that property!

Hi, I did not manage to get an echo php displayed in the header but I managed to solve it:

add_action('pagelines_inside_top_branding', 'google_counter');
function google_counter(){

?>
<div><?php echo gplus_count(); ?></div>
<?php }
	// end function

I do have an other question. When I pick a font, in my example Yanone Kaffeesatz, It looks totally different in IE and FF and Google. But it sais it is * Denotes Web Safe Fonts

G Denotes Google Fonts, so should it not look the same? When I look at other sites like internetmarketinguniversiteit[dot]nl he did managed to look the Yanone look the same in all browsers...

I have just tested the font on Chrome and FF and they look the same as far as I am concerned. Therefore, can you create a new topic and provide screenshots of what you're seeing in the different browsers please.

      Hello, I am having a problem similar to that experienced by Michael Kummer here. We have pages that show this automatic scrolling issue (examples here and here) and it is sufficiently annoying that we have seen customers bounce while trying to convert. Strangely, it only happens at specific resolutions, so it can be difficult to reproduce. In general we can only consistently reproduce it on a 4k resolution with a browser width between 1517 and 1536px.
      Thanks to Michael Kummer's help we were able to set the overflow-anchor property to none in the entire body, which fixed the issue as far as we can tell, but also obviously disabled scroll anchoring for the whole site. I tried applying it to the specific element that looked like it was being reloaded, which was the PL Meganav extension, but that was unsuccessful.
      Can anyone help us figure out which element or ID we can apply this property to, so that we can fix the scrolling issue but not disable scroll anchoring for the entire site?
      Thank you -

      Hello,
      Shouldn't the image PL5 component be using the srcset/picture css directives to pick the correct size for an image? or it does already and I don't know how to use it? Thank you for any advice or enlightenment.

      Good Evening/Afternoon or Morning,
      I am running into a problem with CSS styling not applying inside of most browsers (Safari, Firefox) when I am logged in to wordpress, and all browsers that I have tested when I am logged off and the site has been made public (Chrome, Firefox and Safari).
      As a result, I have managed to identify the probable cause. It looks as though these browsers are refusing to render my sites compiled CSS file due to it being a HTTP URL rather than HTTPS.
      I have attempted to change this URL to HTTPS in my browser, however it brings back an ERROR: File not found page - https://www.shortfilmblog.com/wp-content/uploads/pagelines/compiled-css-core-1505847507.css
      What would you suggest in this regard? Would this be resolvable from your end?
      Happy to provide any further details required.

      I changed the colours of my nav (simple nav) and the hover effect (a. hover).
      I really tryed to highlight the active/used link in the nav but I cant figure it out.
      I want it to be black when active.
      Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

      Hi guys,
      every since Chrome introduce scroll anchoring (see chrome://flags) blog posts on my page start scroll automatically as soon as the user scrolls down a bit. It is super annoying and I don't know exactly what triggers the incompatibility with Chrome's latest feature that is supposed to improve usability.
      Since I don't know what causes it (Pagelines, or a Plugin), I would like to disable the feature using a CSS override that Google describes as follow:
      "Scroll anchoring aims to be the default mode of behavior when launched, so that users benefit from it even on legacy content. A CSS property overflow-anchor can disable scroll anchoring in part or all of a webpage (opt out), or exclude portions of the DOM from the anchor node selection algorithm. This property supports the following values when applied to an element E:
      overflow-anchor: auto (the default value) declares that the DOM subtree rooted at E is eligible to participate in the anchor node selection algorithm for any scrolling box created by E or an ancestor of E. overflow-anchor: none declares that the DOM subtree rooted at E is not eligible to participate in the anchor node selection algorithm for any scrolling box created by E or an ancestor of E." Do you guys happen to know how to use that property with the ROOT element so it applies to the whole page?
      Thanks
      Michael
