Can not access page template for custom post archives

Recommended Posts

Hi, I created a custom post type named "Podcast". I noticed that this created a "Podcast Archive" template in Pagelines' Drag N Drop. After configuring the new template, I tried to create a new page with the "Podcast Archive" template but it does not show up in the dropdown. How can I assign the "Podcast Archive" template to a new page? Thanks.

Hi,

An archive template is a special page template and is thus not assignable.  It is picked up dynamically when an archived post is called by a browser for viewing. It works in the background.

Anything you might add to the Archive Template may also be added to one of the assignable templates (Default, Templates 1 to 5). By doing this, the posts or pages you have will look exactly the same when fresh as they are when archived.  I'd recommend simply setting up both the archive template and one of the standard templates to match.

Maybe I am approaching this incorrectly, but how can I setup a custom template that will use "The Loop" to display latest "Podcast" along with pagination?

Hi,

On Dashboard > PageLines > Drag & Drop > Page Templates you can add any sections that are full-width or rather page-width. You'll have the Content section there. Don't remove it from the template selected.

Click next on Content Area, you'll see PostLoop, which is "the Loop". You can add any section available here, above or below the postloop that will be within the space next to the sidebars.

Hi there, if you follow the guide here http://www.pagelines.com/wiki/How_to_Create_a_Custom_Page_Template this will allow you to set up a custom template in the drag and drop that you can assign to static pages :-)

However, if you're looking to use the loop to display posts based on a specific category like 'podcast' it sounds like you'd be better off using a standard category page and editing the setup/adding sections via the drag and drop to the category template.

If you do want to make your own custom template and then use a plugin/section to call in the loop I'd suggest looking at the follow which could help you

Thanks for your help, I mistakenly purchased Catloop instead of Anyloop. :( Catloop does not handle custom post types. I hope Pagelines will honor their refund policy. #crossingmyfingers

      Hi guys,
Is it possible, and if so, how, to change the layout of the archive pages? For example, I would like to use a smaller and more compact image size for featured images and shorten the amount of text that's displayed for each post without also changing how featured images are displayed on single post pages.
I am talking about https://michaelkummer.com/apple/ vs How to extend the storage of your iPhone or iPad.
      Thanks
      Michael

We are building a Custom Post Type with Custom Fields and Custom Taxonomies.
The only thing we dont understand is how to embed the Custom Fields including header tags and stuff in the Postloop (now we use a text-box below the postloop section but also SEO wise this is not best pratice).
So we thought to copy the dms Postloop section to our child theme and rename this, to add an extra Postloop section to our theme. Is this the way?
What exactly to adjust in those 3 files class.posts.php, section.php and style.less (at this point we know how to change the thumb LOL) and where to add the Custom Fields shortcodes?
      Thanks.

I'm using plugins such as Events Manager and WP Glossary. Basically I need to edit the meta information and the breadcrumb for the custom post types Event and Term. The plugins instruct me to add a single-event.php and single-glossary.php in my (child) theme.
What should I use as a basis for these files? Can I use the templates in the Framework main theme as a basis (tpl-a.php)? Or should I use the whole page.php file?

      Hi!
Is it possible to have multiple archive templates? Sometimes I don't like to have all of my posts grouped together. On the current site I am working on we have a "Job Openings" section completely separate from a "News and Events" section. All I am trying to do is add a different header to each section, but even when I save as separate templates they keep over-riding each other. I am unlocking first.
Is this just error on my part, or is it not currently an option to have multiple archive templates?
      Let me know! Thanks!
      Jenna
