Sidebar translation disables them...

Recommended Posts

There is a big issue with translating sidebar names. If you translate Primary Sidebar, Secondary Sidbar etc i .mo file then they will disappear. This issue is long present. I thought someone will fix the problem by now but many updates were introduced and this problem still exists.

If I remember good I already told someone from the Staff from PL about it month ago...

Hi there, I've checked this out for you and been advised you can't edit an mo file as its a compiled translation file.

There's no way translating the text should cause the sidebar to disappear, so we're assuming you mean the translation stops?

Every time there is an update you will have to update the translation files in order for them to continue working.

Kindly search the forum and read the documentation before posting. It will help you resolve many issues.

For CSS help be sure to check out W3Schools first and be sure to download FireBug for FireFox for troubleshooting.

No, I didn't edit .mo file. I'm an advanced user I (i think) know what I'm saying... I'm using and translating Pagelines Lang Files through Translation Center. The issue is that translating 'Primary Sidebar' to polish as 'Pierwszy Sidebar' removes all widgets from it. So I have to remove translation in order to get them back in place.

Another thing is that translation files should be placed elsewhere - either a child theme or some other place to NOT upload it every time I want to update PL. Do you agree that this is kinda annoying ?

Yes the file is supposed to go in the customize plugin folder, its never overwritten.

Check out the how to edit a string with poedit post, tells you where to put the files there.

Anything that's in a .po/.mo file like Primary Sidebar or so on, may be edited using PoEdit or our Translation Center.

Any content added to a sidebar should be edited either in the site or if it's a plugin, from the plugin or the .po file.

      My sidebar is now showing up below the content, but only on the homepage.
      I've tried disabling plug-ins individually, checking column width, and <div> tag errors on the page as well as in individual posts that are displayed on my homepage. I don't know exactly when this issue arose, so I don't know what else to try!
      Here's the page link:

      Hi guys!
      I have noticed that my primary sidebar becomes intermittently invisible when browsing through various blog articles on michaelkummer.com/blog.
      https://www.dropbox.com/s/z646sgoa3mfjl1j/Screenshot 2018-07-12 15.57.46.jpg?dl=0 and https://www.dropbox.com/s/vdledzzgginvwgv/Screenshot 2018-07-12 15.57.57.jpg?dl=0
      Upon refresh, the sidebar appears. I have been using the following CSS code to hide the sidebar on mobile without any issues.
      @media only screen and (max-width: 993px) {
      /* hide sidebars */
           .plsb {
              display: none !important;
      I tried to add the following CSS to force the sidebar to show on screens that are wider than 994 pixels but to no avail. Any clue what could be causing this issue?

      ¿Where can  I translate the english items "Orders", "Adress", "Payment Methods". "Edit Account" and "Sing Out"of the my account page of the plugin Quickshop? In the po file they are not.
      I think that it have relation with this error: "Your theme version of my-account.php template', '2.6', 'the latest version, which supports multiple account pages and navigation, from WC 2.6.0".

      I use the Frame Work Pagelines´s Child theme for platform 5.

      I am having an issue with the size of the font in a text box widget on my sidebar. It has me completely baffled because I have two text widgets on my sidebar and the other one is displaying perfectly.
      The sole difference between the two is the amount of text in the widget, but that can't be the problem.
      My site is: loveandnudes.com and the text widgets are on the right side at the top.
      I have duplicated the one with the issue and I am fiddling with it right now to see if I can find a solution. But I would love any suggestions. I though CSS would do the trick, but either I tried the wrong thing - or I put it into the wrong place.
      Thanks for your help!
