Why does my style sheet break once and awhile?

Hi

I'm bulding a new website (first time using Pagelines) and are continiously testing my site in different browsers. Often it happes that my site breaks - see attached file, and I have to wait for about 5 minutes before it looks okay again - this is incredibly annoying. Are there any explanation why this happens and is it a commen feature of the Pagelines framework?

This happens to me quite often, but it only lasts about 5 seconds, not 5 minutes. I refresh the page and the CSS is back. I sometimes wonder if it fails to compile, or if I'm checking the site AS it's compiling. Kinda weird though I agree.

It's probably because it is compiling and I'm checking at the same time - just like you. And my connection is probably to slow. I was just interesseted in knowing if other people were experiencing the same thing so that it is a general issue :)

I have an extremely large site, with about 90,000 pages and posts, and a pretty old laptop, but haven't experienced this.  I suspect it may be either your Internet connection timing out before the code compiles or, your server may simply have insufficient memory allocated for PHP processes.  While stylesheets are not PHP, they are in fact called by PHP-based pages.  So if multiple people are looking at your site at any given time, several PHP processes are running concurrently.  If the server doesn't have enough memory allocated to handle it, then things slow down or break.

Try contacting your hosting company and ask them to increase the memory allocated to PHP to at least 128Mb.  That might help.

Thank you - I will try and contact my hosting company.

Honestly I'd avoid contacting your hosting company, as I do not believe that is the issue. My hosting accounts have an exponential amount of RAM (one of which has 32GB) and this still happens from time to time. 99.99% of me believes, that it's the actual compiler taking a minute to compile the LESS, and nothing to do with RAM. If it was RAM, it would never compile.
