Disabling Wordpress Menus

Recommended Posts

I love the ability to toggle Wordpress Menus on/off in StationPro. Will this feature be added to the other themes or is there a workaround to add the "old-fashioned" hierarchical navigation system to those themes? On a site with a lot of sub-pages, creating your own menu system can be really tedious! I hesitate to update the theme on some of my sites because I don't want to reinvent the wheel. It may seem like it would be tedious, but it actually is very quick to even re-create menus with 3.0, however, we did make the themes backwards compatible. If you want to take a look at the template files the correct files to edit would be config_options.php and functions_body.php Let me know if you would like more assistance on placing the code from StationPro

Your definition of tedious must be different than mine :-) Dumping 108 pages into the custom menu area and then sliding them around to organize the hierarchies isn't fun! I'll take a look at the files, but if you have any specific instructions, I would appreciate the assistance. Thanks!

I managed to get the option in the theme config panel and I think I got the correct area from the functions_body.php and swapped it in, but I still am not getting the proper functionality. Basically, I want the drop-down menus to work again. It's showing all of my top-level pages, but I used to have drop-down subpages as well. http://instructionaltech.org

Just to check the gas, you have the Enable Dropdown Menus option checked, correct? Thanks, Bryan

Yes -- If I create a custom menu, the drop-downs work fine. But only with a custom menu -- if I don't assign a menu to the main navigation area, I get my top-level pages, but none of the drop-downs.

108 pages in the navigation !!! That was unexpected. Okay well if you changed those two area then lastly you need to make sure your actual nav section is checking for the option. In StationPro it looks like this in header.php ` <?php if(function_exists( 'wp_nav_menu')):?> <?php wp_nav_menu( array('theme_location'=>'primary', 'menu_class' => 'mnav dropdown fix', 'container' => null, 'container_class' => '', 'depth' => 3 ) ); ?> <?php else:?>

  • <?php wp_list_pages('sort_column=menu_order&depth=3&title_li='); ?>
<?php endif;?> ` but in other themes it is probably in _nav.php

...And I eventually decided to re-create (and slightly simplify) the menu system since I wanted to be able to update along with you guys without having to rig the theme too much -- though I think you should offer this feature in all of your themes (why just StationPro?). Which led to another issue with Congress Forums & the menu: http://www.pagelines.com/forum/topic.php?id=2559
