Categories & Carousel

Hello,

I am trying to get pages created which show the following:

1) image carousel with images from a certain post category (ie: companies)

2) posts loop from a certain post category (ie: companies)

For example, I want pages for the following two categories that have this content:

a. Companies

     - carousel with thumbnails from post category=companies

     - post loop from post category=companies

b. Illustrators

     - carousel with thumbnails from post category=illustrators

     - post loop from post category= illustrators

I have configured the category page to include a carousel, but it appears that i can only show the thumbnails from one category type (or all of them). This means if I pick the category "companies", the carousel will show companies on all my other category pages. Blah.

I am stuck with the following:

a. Companies

- carousel with thumbnails from post category=companies

- post loop from post category=companies

b. Illustrators

- carousel with thumbnails from post category=illustrators

- post loop from post category= companies  (BAD)

Is there another way to accomplish this?

Thanks....

Lisa

Hi Lisa,

Do you mean that you can only select one category on the Carousel options on the Category Page?

from Pagelines->Page Options->Category Page, I have a drop down list for "Select category for Carousel". Here I can only choose one category or *all categories*.

The point is that if I want to show a carousel on the category page, I can't tell it to dynamically pick the posts of that category type :(.

Hi there, I see what you mean, this is the same for the featured slider unfortunately.

I'm not sure but Nick's, Better Carousel section might have this feature, http://www.pagelines.com/store/sections/better-carousel/ or maybe the Category boxes plugin could be an alternative http://www.pagelines.com/store/sections/better-carousel/

Kindly search the forum and read the documentation before posting. It will help you resolve many issues.

For CSS help be sure to check out W3Schools first and be sure to download FireBug for FireFox for troubleshooting.

The Grams section of Platform 5, is lacking lots of important features, that DMS multigram was having, there is no space for another user ID asie the default user, that was one of the strongest point of multigrams, because the Hashtag option cannot capture everyone, multiple User ID is the default standard for Instagram,  Also there is no carousel or slide on this one, it means now that if you want to display 18 pictures in one page all will be visible at once thats not good engineering.
My appeal to the Pagelines Team, guys please let the next update have all the DMS Multigrams features that is missing on Platform 5 Grams, that will bring it to its glory...

      Hi,
Previous webmaster has made short codes assigned to certain categories. For example: [pl_section section="loops" id="003"]  displays all the Job posts for tech.
But where can I assign a short code for a certain category? I can't find where to add the loop ID for the category.

      Thank you

I've created a new post category "Success stories" with Custom Post type UI. (in order to have a different layout for a different post category - blog post one layout, success stories another layout).
New category "success stories" are "detached" from all the other posts, so they have a different layout, but the problem is that all of the success stories are also having the same exact content.
So whenever I edit content (e.g. change body text) on one of success story posts, it also changes the content (body text) for all other Success story category posts.

Question: Is there a way to retain this separate category with it's own layout, and have a different content for each individual post? I'm using Pagelins templates.
       Thanks in advance.

      Hi,
Is is possible to have different layouts for different Post categories? We have Blog posts, News posts and Case studies that all are posts, but is it possible to differentiate their layouts?
So far when I change a post layout it affects all Post type pages. Could it be done somehow with creating a separate template?
      Examples below

      Hello
I am using DMS 2 theme and I want to create a 2 different links on my website; each link should take you to a different blog post category. Although the process is easy, yet I can not figure out how to give each category page a unique design of its own; Any change I make on any page is applied to the other (I'm aware of the universal elements like the header and footer and I a am not talking about these.)
Since I am new to wordpress in general, I am not sure if my description is sufficient; apologies if it is not.
