Newb Help - Static Vs Blog Main Page?

Recommended Posts

I set up my site two years ago on Station - decided I wanted to add a forum and it eventually led me to loading up PageLines...which I really like.

Going through the tutorial, talking about templates, I realized that my site (which is mostly a blog, some content pages and sidebar gizmos) doesn't have a static home page - my main page is just my latest blog entries. No defined Home Page and no defined Blog Page.

It's worked well enough so far, but how do I set up a template for it in PageLines? And if I do set up a static home page at this point, how do I tell it to show my blog entries and set it up as the main page visitors reach when they hit my site? Is this in PageLines or in WordPress?

Sorry this is so basic...

Okay. There are six pre-defined and customizable page templates found in Dashboard > PageLines > Drag & Drop. These include Default and Template 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5.

Create a static page. Select a template (right side), then go to Drag & Drop and modify the elements you have on the Page Template and Content Area.

You can create some great static pages that way, and add shortcodes for unique things you'd like to add. http://demo.pagelines.me/tools/

Save the page and then create another, called blog, but in this one, don't include anything at all in the edit field. Only use sections like banners, boxes, sliders. Save it.

Go to Dashboard > Settings > Reading and set your Frontpage and Blog page under Static pages.

I'll noodle on this tomorrow, thanks Rob.

The first static page can be called anything? 'Home', 'Frontpage'...whatever...?

Hi riverbears

You can be called "Home" "FrontPage" or as you like, the name is not important.

The name doesn't matter, more for tagging for you. Once you select the page as your static front page in General > Settings > Reading it will appear as www.yourpage.com instead of www.yourpage.com/somepage

Is this issue now resolved?

Well, sort of. I'm pretty lost here, but no need to keep this open. I'll muddle thru, thx. :)

I thought I had seen the last of this problem. However, please look at dev.stevensoncraneservice.com (the development site for our company). Every internal page looks fine. However, the home page is "broken" on every browser. However, when I'm logged in when using Chrome as a admin, the site checks out fine.
Can you help me figure this out?
      Thanks,
      Rich

      Hi,

This website http://itseasybeinggreenmovie.com/ is running DMS2 and I've run into a bizarre issue in Firefox.

When the home page initially loads up, the top portion of it gets truncated and "hidden" behind the top nav section, hiding the top portion of the intro paragraph and the top portion of the YouTube video.

Here is a screenshot of how it gets truncated - http://davidcosgrovesandbox.com/cutoff.png

This is how it should look (and does look upon refreshing) - http://davidcosgrovesandbox.com/not-cutoff.png

That affected section is a canvas area, 600 pixels high, with a background image.

For the time being, until this can be fixed, we just put the content in the WP-loop section, so the cutoff canvas area has been hidden for desktop and mobile users.  I want to enable it again once this can be fixed.

If you need Admin access to look at anything please PM me and I will set you up.

I've never run into this issue with DMS, it's a new one on me!  Thank you in advance for your help guys.

      Hello -

The slider that is on the Home Page of our website (www.rphospital.org) is not showing up/working properly. I have tried to reload and fix things in the back-end of the slider options but it is still not showing up. Please advise. Any direction to get the slider to work again is appreciated.

      Thanks in advance!

How do you create the blog home page? For example like this http://www.pagelines.com/blog/.   If I insert the post-loop section displays only the contents of the corresponding page.
