Are you speaking of widget titles which are h3?

If that's the case, it's much easier to change the appearance of the h3 tag than to recode the sidebars to h4 effects you're trying to achieve.

Hi,

May I ask the reason for wanting this please, as I am not quite sure what you get from changing a sidebar h3 to a h4?

Please search our forums, before posting!

Danny,

You would have to clone each section that is being used in the sidebars and change the tag in each cloned section. This is not a supported process, nor is it necessary, but if you wish to do this, please review the Wiki to find information about cloning sections.

Personally, I do not recommend doing this as you're likely to create more problems than gain any minor SEO improvement. Going without H3 would confuse search engines, which will misinterpret the H4 (a lower level heading) because it will not be superceded by an h3. See below, where you can see example b., which goes from h2 to h4:

Example:

A. =H1

--- a. = H2

------ i. H3

--- b. = H2

------ i. H4

------ ii. H3 & H4

--- c. = H2

------ i. =H3

--------- 1. H4

That's a direct break not suggested for sidebars which are more intended for hierarchy. The b. example is meant more for pages or posts.
