Locked Out?

Recommended Posts

esqproductions

I seem to be "locked out" of my account. I can access all menu items (along left-hand vertical menu), but none display when clicked. Log-in/log-out options (normally in top-right corner of window) are not visible. Any ideas on how this could have happened?

UPDATE

I edited the wp-config.php file to change debug to "true" instead of "false" and now can see these errors:

How can I resolve these? Thank you.

Those errors you have screenshotted are caused by 3rd party plugins. Try disabling them.

You cant just delete themes/plugins you have to deactivate them 1st.

I guess I should clarify that I can't click on any of the Menu items that are part of the normal Wordpress Dashboard (for example, Pages, Posts, etc. going down the left-hand side). When I click on any of them, I just see the blank white screen as shown in the images. How do I deactivate the plug-ins without going through the Dashboard?

Hi

You can try rename (via FTP) the pagelines folder to pagelines_ then go to wp-admin, login.

Wordpress will switch to the default theme as it cant fint the active theme (pagelines)

Now your in admin, disable the plugins. Then rename the folder back to pagelines and in appearance/themes re-activate it.

Hi Batman,

I changed "pagelines" to "pagelines_" like you suggested. I then logged back in to my Wordpress Dashboard. That worked! Some positive momentum...I had full access to the Wordpress Dashboard (including the ability to access the "Log-in/Log-out" options at the top right hand corner of the Dashboard screen).

BUT, I went in to the plug-ins to deactivate them, and they were already deleted (I'm guessing because I deleted them from the FTP File Manager). I then went into Themes to re-activate Pagelines (after having re-named it again back to simply "pagelines"), and now I'm back to the same point.

Hi Simon,

My website is http://www.esqproductions.com

*EDIT* - Now that Pagelines is activated again, the site appears to be loading and displaying properly. It's just that I can't access anything within the Dashboard, as described.

Now that you're back in, go to Dashboard > Plugins > Installed Plugins and deactivate the plugins listed in the original errors.

I'd also urge you strongly to go to wordpress.org/extend/plugins/ and there, check each of your plugins to make sure it's compatible with the latest version of WP. If you find any that are not cited as compatible with 3.4.2, deactivate it and start looking for a replacement.

That could be generated by an out of date plugin using pre CSS3 styling or, it could be a bad installation. I'd prefer that we look at the plugins first as we know they've already thrown a few errors. From the thread, only Boxer was removed, though there were at least 3 plugins cited in the first screenshot.

Hi Rob,

Again, through the Wordpress Dashboard, I can't click on any menu items. So when I go to Dashboard > Plugins, I just get the white screen that I've shown in the above screen captures.

I can go into the FTP File Manager through GoDaddy and delete the various plugins, but Simon said this isn't the way to do it (that they would have to be deactivated through the Wordpress Dashboard).

Okay. In that case we're going to have no option but to use the file manager route. But this time, we're going to do something different.

Please go wp-content/themes/ and delete the /pagelines folder, using the GoDaddy File Manager. Your settings will be stored in the database, so don't worry. You won't lose anything.

Once you've done this, please try to access the Dashboard and see if you can deactivate the plugins.

You will likely get a bunch of errors. Just ignore them.

I'm going to strongly recommend you change your hosting to something like WP Engine or BlueHost.

OK, pagelines folder deleted using GoDaddy File Manager.

OK, I went back into the Dashboard (which is working properly again), and went to Plugins, but the Plugins that I already deleted from the File Manager are not there. The remaining plugins have always worked just fine.

*EDIT* - What would switching hosting do? GoDaddy has always worked fine, and is frankly much more affordable than the options you suggested. The problem that I'm having only happened this morning when I was trying to play with some Custom CSS code, which led to the LESS Compiling Error. I was under the impression that this was caused by something I did, not GoDaddy.

Okay. Now go to http://www.pagelines.com/launchpad/member.php

Login, then download PageLines Framework.

Unzip it to your Desktop.

Using the file manager, please upload the pagelines folder to wp-content/themes/

Log back into the dashboard and see if you're able to access the menu items.

Hi Rob,

I went through each of the steps you outlined. After following them, I was able to access all menu items from the Dashboard. Pagelines is not activated, though, and when I went to Themes, it said that it was reverting to Twenty Eleven.

Twenty Eleven is the default.

At least we don't have you locked out. So we're making progress.

Now in Dashboard > Appearance > Themes, activate PageLines Framework. See if you're getting the errors still.

Hi Rob,

I'm an idiot and hadn't followed your instructions the first time around. I had uploaded the pagelines.zip into the File Manager rather than the pagelines folder. I'm currently uploading the pagelines folder. After that's finished, I'll go in and see if I can activate Pagelines through Themes > Pagelines.

Not an idiot. But patience is sometimes lost when frustrated. It happens. As long as you're working on it right now, let's see how this goes. Don't forget to remove the .zip file too.

Ok, so talk about frustrating...

I removed the .zip file and uploaded the pagelines folder and placed it within the Themes folder within the File Manager. Logged back into the Wordpress Dashboard, went to Themes and Pagelines was there. I activated Pagelines, and am back to square one. I can't access any Menu items (I just get the white screen), and an indicated along the top Menu bar "LESS Compile error!".

:(

*EDIT* - Is it odd that the website is loading and displaying properly, but that I'm having these problems with my Wordpress Dashboard interface?
