Feature image 'issue'

Recommended Posts

hibbsy78

The images used for my features are 960x380. I've noticed when the page loads the image is initially displayed in a shorter version before updating to the full size?

My concern is my images are not optimised to the correct size and this potentially causes and increase in page load speed?

Hopefully the images show this a little clearer...

Any feedback appreciated!

Hmm, I am unable to load the site, it woud appear to be a connection on my part. Therefore, would it be OK to wait for another mod to review your issue.

Yes no problem. I think I may have found the issue. On the home page & feature setting is had the height set at 330. Change this to blank (default 380) and seems ok. Think I just need to update my images to 930 width now...

See if you can connect to http://vikihibbs.com which is on the same BlueHost server....?

Hi there, I've managed to view both links. The first link you've posted the images seem to be displaying fine now. Let us know if you've resolved this issue or if you require further assistance.

Kindly search the forum and read the documentation before posting. It will help you resolve many issues.

Is 930 x 380 the correct image size. The change I made from 960 to 380 has made the issue better although there is still a slight 'image /resize/jump' as the page loads....if you reload the home page a few times you will see everything from the feature image jump up approx 1 or 2 lines....?

I do see it now the issue. However, I am unable to reproduce the issue. Therefore, can you try disabling all active plugins or any custom code you may have added please and see if this resolves the issue.

I'm having the same problem and found this post whilst searching the forum

I have created a feature set with 2 posts, each has a featured image which is 1024x768. I've set the feature slider to use an aspect ratio of 1.5 so that you can see the full image without cropping. When the page opens the image is cropped to the original height of the slider and then resizes to my setting.

The jump is a lot more obvious on my site as there is such a big difference between the original setting and mine.

I've set the aspect ratio as a site default and also the setting on the home page itself.

This can ben seen at http://www.andyogden.co.uk/dev

As per the previous suggestions I've turned off all plugins and removed the custom CSS without any success

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Andy

Andy, please open a new topic in future as this is considered hijacking and bad netiquette.

I suspect in both cases the issue is resizing or scaling of images. Let's remember that if the image must be processed by WordPress, this will take a moment or two in order to 'kick in'. Meanwhile, the image will load full size, momentarily displaying a cropped, not resized image.

The best suggestion is to make the images a static size (whatever you desire) and set the slider to use the default size without scaling or aspect ratio.

In terms of the question of what's the right height, that's totally your choice, however, whatever height is chosen should become a standard for all the slides in a set. I do not recommend leaving the height field blank, but do urge all to assign that standard height for all in the set.

Using a graphics editor to resize or crop images to a standard size does wonders!

My apologies, I wasn't trying to hijack, simply add more supporting evidence for the same issue to help it get resolved

I am not sure what you issue is, your image is being resized as you have added the image to a Feature Slider inside the Content Area. Your content area has a width of 878px.

@hibbsy I think that "jump" you're seeing may be happening because the site is still in the process of loading, so the resize hasn't taken effect yet.
