magazine layout and blog layout at the same time?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Is there a filter available to set a the post layout mode for a page? I am using the magazine layout for the main blog page and I would like to use the (normal) blog layout for a second and a third blog page. In the admin I can only set a default layout. Would be nice if there is an other way to achieve this.

Thanks!

It's possible to set layouts on a page-by-page basis in PageLines Meta Settings. What do you mean by second and third blog page? Are these special pages like archive pages?

Ok, but if I am correct you cannot set the post layout mode (magazine or blog) on a page by page basis? Now I have magazine mode as the default layout, hence all the special pages (archive and category) are in magazine mode too. This is fine, but for two of my categories I would like to swith the layout to the blog layout mode. Is that possible?

Yes, you are correct. It's not possible for two category pages to switch to blog layout mode. It's either one layout mode or the other (unless you managed some kind of super advanced coding workaround - in this case, a help from a Pro developer would be needed).

That is a pitty. I am not a coder, but it doesn't seem that advanced. If you can switch the whole site than you also can switch only two categories with a simple if statement.

If you wish to hire someone to customize your PageLines site or feel as if you are unable to set up your PageLines product on your own, we invite you to check out the PageLines Pros. Just visit http://www.pagelines.com/pros/ and send an email to the Pro of your choice. I am not sure if they will be able to accomplish what you are looking for but you can always check.

Our organization would like a section on just one of our category pages which would filter posts in that category by tag. It seems that everything I've read--on these forums, pagelines documentation and other wordpress forums--has said it is impossible to customize the layout of a specific category page differently from the others, meaning that all category pages will appear the same (apart from using a plugin like widget logic).

So I'm trying to figure out if I did the "impossible" with DMS2, and want an opinion on whether I should assume this change will hold.

The images I'm linking each show a different category layout from our dev site. The first one is the layout that all of the categories use. This is a snap of the "Blog" category. There is a set DMS template called "Blogtest" assigned to this layout.

The second image is the "News" category page that I seemed to have successfully customized.

How I did this: I unlinked the "News" category page from the "Blogtest" template and I changed the scope from type to local. Then I added/removed some sections and edited the meta bar on the post loop section to clearly distinguish the layout from the other categories.

Is this something that is known to be possible? Is changing the scope from type to local the magic fix?
Our dev site is not accessible to the public due to our firewall, but I could whitelist an IP for a mod. If one of you want to take a closer look, PM me.

Website URL: testsite.canceradvocacy.org (not publicly accessible)
      Framework Version: DMS 2.1.6.1
      WordPress Version: 4.0
Plugins in Use: Don't have a list, don't know if any of them would be at all relevant.
      Server/Host: Litespeed

      Hello!

I was wondering how to create a magazine layout in DMS, like this: http://demo.cactusthemes.com/truemag/

      Thanks in advance!

I saw after upgrading to DMS2 that magazine layout cannot be chosen anymore?
After checking the Enable Legacy Mode in wp content/loop it is there again. So I could start using this great layout.

But why is it not there in DMS2?

And how can I have the post page also in the "old" DMS1 style (with featured image/thumnail not showing up?)
This last question is solved with this code:
#site .single-post .post-thumbnail-link { display: none; }   But why is the feature kicked out to disable the featured image on the post?

I am currently using the magazine layout for my content.

Is there a way to customize it so I can show the full post content in the first 2 posts, and then just the thumbnails for the next 4? Right now, it looks like I can only choose between displaying full content OR thumbnails.

      Thanks!

      Hey guys,

      I did this hack http://www.pagelines.com/forum/topic/19444-4-clips-per-row-in-magazine-layout-show-date/?hl=magazine+layout

and it works pretty well (padding seems wonky but that's fixable)

Moreover, just wanted to say for future updates that I would love a way to make the blog layout simply and cleanly in three columns, no sidebar. That would be awesome.

Also, and this is completely separate, but it would be great if we could cut the homepage into separate category blogs that are small sections showing say 4 posts per category. If there was a way to get drag and drop content buttons that call to specific blog categories and just stack them up on top of eachother, that would be well amazing.

Love pagelines, just thought I'd shout out the wishlist.
