Trouble Getting Social Sharing to Work Correctly

Recommended Posts

Danny

Hi,

Can you provide a link to your website please and also try disabling all non-PageLines plugins and see if this resolves the issue of some social sharing graphics not loading.

Hi Danny... Hope all is well.

I've dug into this some more:

Link: http://goo.gl/p5Q4D

Social sharing renders perfectly in Opera (http://cl.ly/image/313i2S172m0A) & on an iPad. I tried FF, Chrome & Safari and they all give the same partial rendition. I have disabled all plugins to no avail (they are enabled now). Caches have been cleared everywhere... browser history etc...

Let me know what you think.

:-)

I am seeing the sharebar at the bottom of the post in Firefox, Chrome and Safari. I don't have Opera. You'll see from the screenshot what I'm seeing.

You're correct that they're not showing on the homepage blog listings. That is odd, since I cannot find any option, setting or controls handling it.

I'm going to ask Nick or Simon about this tomorrow.

Hi,

I don't see any issue, the sharing tools appear to be working as intended.

Hey Danny: Just wondering which browser you were using to get the above result?

Okay thanks Danny. I ask as my original issue was with these browsers. Maybe something magical happened to get them to render properly on my end?!?!

So it was in these two browsers where you experience the issue ?

Are you using a vanilla Chrome and Firefox or you have any add-ons installed ?

Have you tried clearing your browsers history, cache etc.. and see if that resolves the issue. As I am honestly not seeing this issue, can you try disabling all plugins and see if this resolves it.

I am having the same issue: http://truedeclination.com/

tried the usual suspects [rouge plugins, ect....] but nothing seems to be causing the problem. I am using Chrome.

Hi Danny: I have done all of that already. As long as everyone else can see the Share buttons, I am happy. The issue appears to be on my end for sure. @jonthompson, I went to your site and didn't see anything at all. No partials nada.

Not sure how to resolve something I cant reproduce or see error at all.

If you have disabled all non-PageLines plugins and this doesn't resolve the issue. Have you added any custom code, such as hooks ?

Hey Danny: "As long as everyone else can see the Share buttons, I am happy." So let's just close this TT. I appreciate the followup.

Okay, take a Twitter, bake at 350 degrees F for 1 hour till a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Then you won't have half-baked Twitter. LOL.

Glad this was resolved!

When an article is shared from the blog, the featured image is not pulling up for social sharing. Rather, a different image from the site ... from the sidebar for www.LynnTrevor.com and from the footer for www.ScrapCarsNotKids.org ... is being pulled up. Suggestions?

Over the last month I had extensive communications with the developer of the (premium) Anything Boxes section (in Pagelines store) (Adam Munns) and the developer of the WP Polylang Multilingual plugin (Frederic Demarle).

This was because the following problem occurred:
Anything Boxes showed all posts of two languages (Dutch and English) on the respective static frontpages for each language. It should of course have filtered posts for Dutch language on the Dutch frontpage and English on the English frontpage.

The solution to this problem was simple in the end. When duplicating a page for use in another language the settings for Anything Boxes were not copied to the new page and I should have set these settings manually again on the new page. I wasn't aware of this, but it makes sense. Because of this the pages didn't know how to differentiate between posts from different languages.

The dev of Polylang told me that Polylang is currently smart enough to synchronize metas like Featured images and page templates but it does not work out of the box with metas created by plugins and themes but (according to Frederic) it is rather easy to add them in the list using the filter 'pll_copy_post_metas'.
He mentions that he is not sure that these 'PageLines Meta Settings' are stored in post meta but that would make sense according to him. He asks if the Pagelines dev team will be interested to support this feature in the future.

I'm also wondering if you will consider adding Polylang translation support for manually editable strings like the 'Read more…' strings in Pagelines Settings.

Well that's of course up to you but I thought to let you know to be able to take this into consideration. I also post this for other users in case they experience the same kind of trouble and are looking for an answer.

      Best regards,
      Jan Peeters

I used a custom hook to put a banner ad in my header. It works but its not in the right position. it is centered and above my logo and I would like to float it to the right of my logo in the header. heres the link: http://shaboopie.com/shaboopie-wp/free-logos-pg1/

      thanks.

      Hi!

I am using the shortcodes for tabs, as described in the documentation.

When I insert the following code:

      [pl_tabs][pl_tabtitlesection type="tabs"] [pl_tabtitle number="1"]Title 1[/pl_tabtitle] [pl_tabtitle number="2"]Title 2[/pl_tabtitle] [/pl_tabtitlesection] [pl_tabcontentsection] [pl_tabcontent active="yes" number="1"] Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit [/pl_tabcontent] [pl_tabcontent number="2"] Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit [/pl_tabcontent] [/pl_tabcontentsection] [/pl_tabs]

I get a strange output (in the attachment).

      Any ideas?

      Thanks in advance!
