Mobile font issue using 3G / wifi

Recommended Posts

hibbsy78

I have a strange issue on site http://hibbslupustrust.org - when viewing the site via an iPhone using wifi the site uses my selected google font (Open Sans), but when I'm using 3G the pages load using font Times New Roman.

The only exception to this is when I view the http://hibbslupustrust.org/contact page which uses ssl.

In my base themes functions.php I have the line - "add_action( 'pl_force_ssl', '__return_true' );"

This is the only set up difference to my other site http://vikihibbs.com which functions correctly.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

It was a Simon I think to ensure the /contact page used ssl.

It only seems to be happening since the 2.3 update...nothing else has changed.

Okay, here's the critical question... in font assignment, there's usually three that are set up. The one you primarily selected and two alternates. Check the alternate and I bet you'll find Times New Roman or serif are one of them, if not both.

If you were to find that code and change the secondary and tertiary font choices to something akin to your primary choice, then the change might be imperceptible on a small screen.

Hmm, its odd that it's happening to you but not for me on my iPhone 5.

I have set your topic to follow and I will ask some of our support team to check this to and see what font loads. I will report back here when I have more information.

When I view the site on via mobile using 3g the text shows as times new roman not Open Sans. Same on 2 phones I have tried.

If I switch immediately to wifi loads fonts in Open Sans.

No i dont see that, maybe your 3g provider blocks certain things like googlefonts etc to save bandwidth?

If I deactivate Wordpress https it loads with the open sans font.

What do you mean by deactivating WordPress? What site are you viewing that's showing the Open Sans font?

If I deactivate the plugin 'wordpress HTTPS' then the site loads with the open sans fonts on 3G.

Ah, didn't know it was a plugin. If that plugin is causing the font issue, I would highly recommend leaving it deactivated.

It wasn't causing an issue prior to 2.3 and is required.
