How do I hide the response link in the comments block?

That's a function of WordPress' commenting system and would require a solution from WP. It is there to allow others to reply to the comments made. So if someone has something to add to, or wants to respond to Jjohn's comment, they can.

I'd suggest checking this via http://www.wordpress.org
