Excerpts and thumbnails

Recommended Posts

We use the custom excerpt field; most of our posts also have an image / thumbnail. But Pagelines is not displaying the thumbnail and it's using an auto-generated excerpt.

What can I do to display the excerpt field+thumbnail?

I have adjusted settings in Blog and Posts.

Example: http://www.wemedia.com/blog

Thanks.

If you go to Dashboard > PageLines > Site Options > Blog And Posts and scroll down to Post Thumbnail Placement and make sure that you have Posts/Blog Page and Single Posts (if you want them there) checked, for thumbnails.

For excerpts, scroll to Post Excerpt or Summary Handling and make sure the checkbox is ticked for Posts/Blog Page.

Scroll even further down to Excerpt Length and remove the default 55, leaving it blank.

Save settings.

Now go to Dashboard > Settings > Reading and make sure that for For each article in a feed, show you have Summary selected. Save.

Go to Dashboard > Settings > Media and make sure you have an image size selected (the default is 150 wide and 150 high). Save.

Finally, go to Dashboard > Settings > Permalinks. Change nothing. Simply save.

Check and you should have thumbnails and excerpts working properly.

Thanks. That seemed to do it. All of that had been set previously. The only change was on the feed - I had been using full posts.

(I also had some lag in seeing the changes, probably due to cache issues).

I think I've solved the thumbnail mystery as well, but I don't like it. It appears that Pagelines uses the Featured image for the thumbnail. My previous theme had used the first image to set the thumbnail (or I could set a unique thumbnail via custom field.

Is there a way to set a thumbnail that's different from the Featured image?

Thanks, this helped me figure out that Pagelines uses the Featured Image for thumbnail. My previous theme(s) used the first image in the post to set a thumbnail - and I could also change the thumbnail with a custom field.

Hi, I'm trying to show thumbnails on aggregate pages like category, archives etc., and hide thumbnails on single post pages. I have searched the Pagelines forum and followed some of the instructions given to other users with no luck. Below are two links, one is to a single post, and the other is an archive list. Right now the thumbnails are turned off in the WP postloop.
Both pages are on separate templates, and I tried setting the single post page to loccal and it still seems to keep the thumbnail option as a global setting.

      Thanks for your attention,

Hi there, wondering if there is a way to hide or turn off the flipper thumbnails, so all you have are the blog titles (and dates)? I've searched and haven't seen this question asked before. Thanks!

just migrated from Frameworks to the newest DMS (pro)

When I was using Frameworks, under the "Blog and Posts" settings, I used the "Allowed Tags" option in the Clip Excerpts to enable elements like <iframe><img><object> to appear in the excerpt shown on my blog page.

I used that feature extensively... thankfully there's a legacy option that has enabled me to continue abusing that feature.

Is there a better way to be doing this (allowing, for example, images or embedded YouTube videos to show up in excerpts displayed on the Blog page?

Remember to include as much information about your technical issue as possible for example:

      Website URL: www.worldwidewebsitestore.net
      Framework Version: dms 2
      WordPress Version: 4.x
      Plugins in Use: numerous
      Server/Host: really ?
      Screenshots: http://prntscr.com/5p2vk1
Details: the newest / latest post has it's excerpt showing above the header on every category page... this behavior needs to be removed... how do we go about it ?
