Featured image size, frame and placing

Recommended Posts

ylvaholn

Hi,

I am a wordpress beginner working on a web site on ulfholgersson.se. If possible, I would like to change how the featured image and post text/title are displayed on category pages.

Specifically I would like to (on category pages):

- change the featured image size to "full size", in this case about 600 px width (may vary between pictures)

- remove the frame around the featured image

- change the featured image link to the image url (rather than post url)

- display the post title on the left side of the featured image

- display the post text on the left side of the featured mage (under the title)

Like this:

If anyone has any ideas how to achieve this I would be very thankful!

Going through this one by one:

Specifically I would like to (on category pages):

Whether this is possible on a category basis is yet to be seen. It would require so much work that you'd need a professional site developer.

- change the featured image size to "full size", in this case about 600 px width (may vary between pictures)

Go to Dashboard > Settings > Media and set the thumbnail/featured image size to 600px. Even if your images are larger, they would be cropped to that width. You may need to update existing images which may currently be resized by WP to 150px square (default at present).

- remove the frame around the featured image

This is done with CSS. Install http://www.getfirebug.com and use it with Firefox to locate the border CSS and remove the padding and set the border to 0.

- change the featured image link to the image url (rather than post url)

This also should require the aid of a site programmer as it requires changes to the WordPress code OR, a specialized hook in functions.php.

- display the post title on the left side of the featured image

This is a mixed message. You can't have both a full-width image AND the post info on the side. I see your demo image, and that's achievable also with a hook but not together with a full-width post feature image.

- display the post text on the left side of the featured mage (under the title)

The post excerpt is designed to follow the post meta information. Via Dashboard > Settings > Reading you can select to use the full text rather than summary, which would place the full article there.

If you need a pro developer, I'd suggest http://www.pagelines.com/pros

I'm building a product catalog site. The featured image is set correctly, but the woocommerce placeholder image is displaying instead. If I click on the placeholder image, the featured image appears, and the featured image works fine as a thumbnail.
Please view the site here: http://www.directmat.net/product/power-lock-logo-mat/
Note: I deleted the placeholder image via FTP to see if that would inspire Quick Shop to look for the featured image. No such luck. Please help!

      Hi there,
I'm a big fan of Pagelines, and have been for years.
I'm trying to control the size of video embeds and having some difficulty. I see that I can just paste the Vimeo video URL into the post and an embed widget will automatically appear, which is great. But the embed box created is much taller that the video (689 x 1000 pixels) so the content sits in the middle of a tall black box, which looks awkward.
I tried using the full iFrame embed code from Vimeo, which solved the disproportionate embed frame size (or aspect ratio) issue, but despite specifying the dimensions I want (690 x 388), the videos displayed on the post are sized at 300 x 150 pixels.
I can't work out how to change either.
I'm using the latest version of Pagelines Framework (Pro) with the Agency them.
Any help or advice very much appreciated.
      Thanks,
      Dougal

      Hi there!
I'm trying to create a featured image for my new blog post. It has text in it, and when I add it as a featured image some of the text is cut off on the right.
Could I get the ideal dimensions for featured images? Or, a way to customise the dimensions so that they are easier to fit in the way I need?
      Thank you kindly
      Nate
