thewebscaper 0 Report post Posted July 24, 2012 In trying to determine how to display different sidebars on different pages, I have found many references here in the forum that suggest using Widget Logic, which I have used on many client sites and love. However, conditional logic is confusing to my non-technical clients. Widget Logic Visual would solve this problem, but I've had issues with it on some sites. Anyone here used it on PageLines with success, or should I stick with the original Widget Logic? Thanks in advance, Kym

thewebscaper 0 Report post Posted July 24, 2012 Hi Danny - Oh, I'm not having an issue with either plugin on this PageLines site... I haven't tried Widget Logic Visual on this site yet. The issue with regular Widget Logic is that my non-technical clients have trouble remembering the conditional statements to type. Widget Logic Visual has worked wonders on a couple of sites, but has not worked on all my client sites (I don't recall off the top of my head what doesn't work but some kind of conflict). Since so many have been recommending regular Widget Logic here in the forum I figured I'd ask if anyone's used Visual with any issues. That's all :) Suppose I can just install it myself and see if I run into trouble, just figured I'd inquire here about anyone else's experience with it. thewebscaper 0 Report post Posted July 24, 2012 If not clear from above, the issues I've had with WL Visual were on non PageLines websites. :)
catrina 103 Report post Posted July 24, 2012 I've never used Widget Logic myself but I'm aware of how often it's recommended. If your non-technical clients have trouble with the conditional statements, I think a list/visual would definitely be a great idea. Perhaps you can suggest that to the plugin creator. ;) Please read the docs before posting. Please do not private message me unless I ask you to. thewebscaper 0 Report post Posted July 25, 2012 Hi Catrina, Well, Widget Logic Visual *is* a plugin - it was created in response to the well-known Widget Logic but added the feature of being visual rather than having to type in the conditional statement. Not sure why the original developer didn't/doesn't, but that would be nice. May I ask - it's clear that you're a PageLines pro, so how is it that you've not had to use Widget Logic? What do you do instead when developing sites in order to have varying sidebars? If given the chance I'd not use a plugin. On other sites I manually add new sidebars to the system but with the framework it seemed I would need to modify core code, not just the child theme, in order to add new ones. If you've got a trick to share, please do!
catrina 103 Report post Posted July 25, 2012 I'm actually not a PageLines Pro, I'm only a forum moderator, which is why I've never used Widget Logic before (since I don't build sites regularly). I don't know of any tricks for adding new sidebars to the system. I think Widget Logic Visual would be an ideal solution. Sorry I couldn't be of further any assistance, but perhaps another moderator can provide a better response. Please read the docs before posting. Please do not private message me unless I ask you to.
